Tibetans attack police station, 93 monks arrested
Source: Yahoo

BEIJING – Hundreds of Tibetans attacked a police station and government officials in northwestern China despite heightened security, prompting the arrests Sunday of nearly 100 monks, state media reported.

Six of those arrested for alleged involvement in the attack were caught by police while 89 others turned themselves in, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. All but two were monks, it said.

The protest appeared to be in response to the disappearance of a Tibetan who escaped from police custody in Qinghai province, Xinhua said.

According to a Tibetan exile, the protest involved as many as 2,000 people and was sparked by the apparent suicide of a monk being investigated for unfurling a Tibetan flag.

3. Very hard video to watch
but nothing compared to what Tibetans have been enduring since China's invasion and takeover of their country since the 1950s. It truly breaks my heart to see such violence but I am so grateful that some videos are making their way out for the rest of the world to see. Several people probably risked their lives to get this video out. Thank you for sharing it.

Its so gruesome and heartbreaking to watch. :(
thanks to the people who took great risks in bringing these videos to the outside world; we are able to see the horrors the Tibetan people face under Occupation.

As someone from a country that does the same to a segment of its inhabitants(Srilanka), i can really understand the dire situation the Tibetans are in. Don't give up Tibetans..one day Tibet will be free.

5. HA! Tibetans attack police station.
That's the official word from the Chinese government. This is standard operating procedure for them. They are actually pretty good at it. 1) Ruthlessly put down any opposition to the government. 2)Make the protesters disappear into the prisons. 3)Clamp down on news getting out of the country. 4) Make a public statement to the world whining about how the government was attacked by terrorist groups.

If Ghandi had gone up against the Chinese govt in China they would have just killed him, and that would have been the end of it. Except for the press release about how the terrorist Ghandi had hurt himself building bombs and was now in custody for his own health and safety.

6. A lot of ethnic Han civilians have been assaulted in Tibet.
There is plenty of evidence of this fact. When there were big riots on the run-up to the Olympics, lots of ethnic Han civilians were bloodied while just walking down the streets of Llasa. There are hooligans on both sides to be sure, without even addressing the issue of sovereignty or who's right.

7. that may be true, but it's damned clear as to who's right.
That would be the Tibetans who have been brutally occupied by the Chinese for over 50 years.

8. I do think there should be self-determination for Tibet.
I think that it would be in China's interest to provide for this. They need to convince through persuasion. They've taken steps in this direction through providing large subsidies to Tibet but that isn't enough. They need to provide a high degree of autonomy and make a clear case politically as to why being a part of the PRC is good for Tibet. I'd like to see a plebiscite personally. I have no idea which side would win, I must say.

It definitely would be China's best interest to provide for this, but at this time, China doesn't convince through persuasion but rather forces their views on others... literally. China uses totally inhumane and deadly force against any dissension of any type, especially Tibetan. They are truly trying to erase Tibetan culture as I speak. I do hope that, for China's own long term good, they can become more diplomatic. Tibetans truly do want peace :)
