White House ready to let Guantánamo inmates settle on US mainland
Source: The Guardian

The White House is set to reverse a key Bush administration policy by allowing some of the 240 remaining Guantánamo Bay inmates to be resettled on American soil.

The US is pushing for Europe to take a share of released inmates, but the Obama administration is reconciled to taking some of them, even though there will be noisy resistance from individual states.

Washington has told European officials that once a review of the Guantánamo cases is completed, the US will almost certainly allow some inmates to resettle on the mainland.

Some of those to be released can return to their own homelands, but there are many others who cannot, such as the Chinese Uighurs who would face the risk of a death sentence.

6. The PERFECT Spot!
I'm sure they could take care of that little problem for america--settle the case out of court, as it were. It would be justice.

5. An indication of guilt in the part of our government. God help those innocent new settlers who have,
God know what..., they have gone through.

fact that we house serial killers, violent murderers, rapists, gang members, and child molesters within the country.

So, a hundred or so suspected terrorists are worse than those people? Yeah, sure. :sarcasm: :eyes:

11. We now know only a couple of dozen are actual terrorists
The others were just rounded up b/c it was thought they might have information or, like the Chinese, simply because they were foreigners, and they were offering a bounty on foreigners.

Be interesting to see how they handle the cases of the actual terrorists. If actually tried in open federal court, I bet some of the sordid details of their treatment would come to light, so probably no trial for them.

14. If they have never been indicted, much less convicted, why is there such hysteria over these people?
They have been held without charge for years, and nearly all of the ones that have been transferred to nations that observe due process have been released.

15. I suspect that no matter how innocent they may be, I doubt they love America.
I do not understamd why they would wish to live in a country that would treat them as they have been treated. I would suspect they in fact now have a deep hatred for this country. It is hard to encourage someone to live in your neighborhood when you feel they hate you and your country.

20. Not sure that people are supposed to be locked up or deported based on your suspicions.
But regardless, someone who has been wrongfully incarcerated is owed at least their liberty.

22. Yes they deserve a hell of a lot more than just their freedom
I was just suggesting a reason why many here in America might be suspicious of them. I would give a years pay if the entire Bush* Cabal had to exchange places with them for at least as many years as they have spent in confinement.

17. Isn't it obvious? They are part of
the world's 1.5 billion Muslims. AND they have Arab surnames.

For the love of God, put two and two together before we all wind up dead.

18. Hey, I have the perfect place: Preston Hollow.
Fenced, gated, and plenty of security.

Of course having to live next to Dubya might be construed as cruel and unusual punishment.
