Curtains For Pro-Labor Bill? Specter Says He'll Vote No
Source: Talking Points Memo via The Hill

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) announced Tuesday he will oppose card check, giving an apparent death blow to the most important congressional issue to organized labor.

Specter made the dramatic announcement in a floor speech. His opposition means Democrats can count on a maximum of 59 votes to move the bill forward, one short of the 60 required to clear Senate rules.

Watch: our Democrat Congress won't lift a finger and neither will Obama.
(I used the term "Democrat" on purpose---we no longer have a Democratic Party)

1. Yes. It has no chance of passing without Specter
Not sure what you want Democrats or Obama to do. You know damn well it can't pass without Specter. And It has no Republican support. So people who want it better get out there and fight hard in the mid term elections

2. There aren't enough union members left in Pa. to cause him to support it.
If I still lived in Pa. I'd contact him, but it's futile for me to contact MY Senators or congressman. All 3 are Ga. Pubs and wouldn't vote for a union if I held a gun to their head!

3. Of course, he has a tough primary coming up

I'll never understand why we don't ever MAKE them filibuster.

His best chance was to become a Dem and now he blew it (and likely his re-election as a (R) along with it).

7. everyone that has a dem senator should send him/her a urinal
and tell the Senator to hand it to the obstructionists and let them know that if they don't start filibustering and peeing in the bottle everything is going to pass on a 51 vote.

9. I pegged this when he first mentioned he might lean toward voting for it ...
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it ...

Don't EVER count on Spectre for anything when it comes to "opposing" his party ...

18. "Don't EVER count on Spectre for anything"
That's something EVERYONE should have learned long ago.

Nevertheless- that's not the end of Card Check. Just means some tougher politics.

13. Yep. Exactly why the RNC is fighting him so hard. This is not the first time one vote would have
made a difference.

My son says they are killing Senator Kennedy by making him come in for all these close votes, too.

I try not to hate them. I am failing.

12. this shows why they're
holding Franken back. We all need to call and yell at Harry Reid. They could make them filibuster instead they just immediately roll over.

15. The solution is simple: make the GOP try to filibuster it.
That is what a party that really opposes the GOP would do. They'd also call on the American people to organize mass opposition to the GOP to press for the passage of this legislation.
