No letup on border, U.S. says
Source: THE CANADIAN PRESS

WASHINGTON – A senior official in the Obama administration doused hopes today that the Canadian border will be treated differently than the beefed-up Mexican boundary where drug violence is escalating and countless illegal immigrants flood into the United States every day.

"One of the things that we need to be sensitive to is the very real feelings among southern border states and in Mexico that if things are being done on the Mexican border, they should also be done on the Canadian border," Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security, told a Canada-U.S. border conference.

The daylong Brookings Institution event featured dozens of participants from both countries discussing ways in which the movement of goods and people across the Canada-U.S. border could be facilitated. Napolitano's remarks closed the event on an almost depressing note.

"We shouldn't go light on one and heavy on the other," she said of the Canadian and Mexican borders.

1. fair is fair?
We need to deal with the problems where we have the problems. I didn't realize that we had the same problems with the Canadian border that we have with the Mexican border....maybe I'm mistaken?

3. We Must
Be mistaken.

The problem with the northern border is power and money. The result of NAFTA.
Bet they don't interrupt the pipelines. Don't think they will slow down the trucks coming north.

So what are they going to do!
Squeeze.

2. No, I disagree. This is bu$h think.
We do not have near the problems with Canada as we do Mexico.
The U.S. - Canadian border used to be the longest unfortified border in the world. What changed with our relationship with Canada to change that?
I think it would be better to work with Canada along the common border. I seriously doubt they will be attacking us any time soon.
9/11 happened 7½ years ago. We are a very powerful country. Why are we still so paranoid?
Most of the criminals responsible are not in government the any longer.

Canada is not Mexico. Canada's economy is fine, unlike Mexico.

4. It May
Not be about the same problems but rather about control from the center of the empire. If not then tell me what is going on.
