Partys mean nothing in italian politics. They are founded, they change names, they collapse. That's regular stuff.

And two-party-state? WTF???? What about the communists, the religious fundies and the moderate socialists?

a lot of people in the Italian center voted for Berlusconi because they saw him as a sort of bulwark against the crazier elements of the right. Openly allying with the fascists might make some reconsider?

OTOH - the Italian left is so splintered that they're hopeless. And when they do win the PM slot, they put some hack like Prodi in there, who is just as bumbling and corrupt as the right ever was. Result: Berlusconi gets reelected.

Poor Italia, for sure.

in NoCal. She felt completely discouraged about Berlusconi and said that Italy was once a very nice country.
