Often Split, Arab Leaders Unite for Sudan’s Chief
Source: NY TIMES

CAIRO — Arab leaders may be divided over which Palestinian faction to support and what to do about Iran’s rising influence, but they have found one cause to rally around: Protecting the president of Sudan from charges he orchestrated the rape, killing and widespread pillaging in Darfur.

Arab leaders gathered for their annual summit meeting in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, on Monday, hoping to patch over their many differences. But they had little trouble agreeing to an effusive embrace of Omar Hassan al- Bashir, the president of Sudan, who was indicted by the International Criminal Court earlier this month for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Al-Bashir deserves to hang for his crimes against humanity. He belongs in the same spot in Hell Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Milosivic are in and Bush and Cheney will be in.

4. Libya's Gadhafi storms out of Arab summit in Qatar ( and goes sight seeing )
snip

Gadhafi disrupted the opening Arab League session in Qatar by taking a microphone and criticising Saudi's King Abdullah, calling him a "British product and American ally".

snip

"I am an international leader, the dean of the Arab rulers, the king of kings of Africa and the imam (leader) of Muslims and my international status does not allow me to descend to a lower level," Gadhafi said before getting up and walking out of the hall.

A Libyan delegate said Gadhafi went to the Islamic museum in Doha for a tour.

6. full text of Qadhdhafi's remarks
"I say to my brother `Abdullah: six years and you have been fleeing, afraid of confrontation. And I want to reassure you that you should not be afraid, and I tell you after six years that it has been proven that it is you who have lies behind you and the grave ahead of you, and it is you who was created by the British and protected by America. And in respect to the nation I consider the personal problem between you and me to be over, and I am willing to visit you or you visit me. I am an internationalist leader and the dean of Arab rulers and and King of African Kings, and the Imam of Muslims, and my international stature does not permit me to descend to any other level. Thanks."

Thoroughly insane, but spot on at the same time. Very few people can pull that off well.

8. Qadafi brings the inspired crazy like few others.
He's also claimed that his own feats are greater than Muhamamad's.

7. yet they continue to support the occupation of Iraq & Palestine
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 09:06 PM by Alamuti Lotus
Go figure. In context, the court ruling is indeed a joke -- applied fairly, the Royal Highness of Dumbfuckery ('that's our bush') and Tsar Putin would be first on the chopping block, but instead represent the chief among the celebrated. It is odd, I would think that Bashir's fight against 'Islamic terrorism' would be supported -- this is precisely what Bush & Bushama are doing in Iraq & Afghanistan, what Putin does in the Caucasus, as the Zionists in Palestine, etc etc..

9. Sudan doesn't have any big beef with an Islamic neighbor...
and it commits crimes against humanity like a champ, so it's a great crowd-pleaser among most Arab states.
