China urges world not to overreact to N.Korea launch
Source: Reuters

BEIJING (Reuters) - China urged the international community on Sunday not to overreact to North Korea's launch of a long-range rocket, which prompted condemnation from many powers and triggered an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi called his counterparts in the United States, Russia, Japan and South Korea to discuss the launch, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"All sides ought to look at the big picture ... (and) avoid taking actions which may exacerbate the situation further," Yang was paraphrased as saying.

(snip)

"We hope related parties stay calm and exercise restraint, appropriately deal with it and together maintain peace and stability in this region," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu added in a separate statement that referred to the rocket as an "experimental communications satellite."

2. Watch the morans in the Party of No take this subject and run with it.
Newt, being the nasty little opportunist he is, wouldn't care how many people died if it furthered his political ambitions. He's just been laying in wait for the cast of dumb-ass clowns like Palin and Jindal to wear out their welcome on the national stage. Oh and hell, Michael Steele was a blessing for Newtie. Next to him Newt looks almost smart.

Russia also wants to lull the area into a false sense of security...just keep feeding China's lap dog or else Kim may force more of his people into their graves for the glory of Kims worldy stature....

is no harm to anyone.

I'm sure it will be the last test as long as the cooking oil continues to flow into the kingdom of Kim

oh wait, now that Kim has succesfully overflown Japan without losing the support of China....
All is well with the world.

What protest could the world possibly put up? Certainy the world would never threaten to stop feeding Kims army.
Maybe they will threaten to doublle the food aid
:sarcasm:

This couldn't be the "test" Joe spoke of.

18. Alright, if the President wants a war let's give it to him
I say that tongue-in-cheek. The President doesn't want a war and wants cooperation in order to temper North Korea's bellicosity and neighboring nation's fears.

But some here talk like Kim is the next evil dictator we need to topple and he plans the destruction of the world. Those are the opinions I was addressing. If the shoe fits though, I may have been addressing your fears and cynicism as well.

Plenty of nations receive aid from the United States, right. What does Kim want? Probably wants US to go back to what Clinton had negotiated. From your link: "So what does Kim want? The list is long: food for his famished people, fuel and — perhaps most importantly — direct talks and relations with Washington."

OH NOES. He wants food, fuel and direct talk. Next he will want our women and Steven Spielberg.

21. That's not even a realistic option

Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of macro-economics and financial markets will be able to tell you the catastrophic effect that would have, especially in this country.

how about this reply

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) and Strategic Forces Chair Ellen Tauscher (D-CA) released the following joint statement concerning North Korea’s missile launch:

“We strongly condemn North Korea’s test of a long-range ballistic missile. The test is a provocative action and a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718, which expressly prohibits North Korea from conducting further ballistic missile launches.
“We call on North Korea to cease any further ballistic missile launches and return to the Six-Party talks without any preconditions. We will support President Obama’s efforts to work with the international community to appropriately address North Korea’s actions.

See ? the strongly worded statement is in the works. All that is left to do is to punish Kim by increaseing desperatly needed food aid

20. Wait a minute

The rule that is being mentioned is a 2006 sanction by the U.N. put into place because of North Korea's nuclear test.

It's not like it's something North Korea signed off on or agreed to abide by.

And there's hundreds of these "rules" being violated every day. Many by our own country.

24. "All sides ought to look at the big picture..."
....and the big-picture is, the country that has the largest nuclear arsenal, the worlds most prolific harbinger and dispenser of military hardware and war, an illegal invader of other countries, the only nation to have used nuclear weapons on a civilian population twice, hasn't much room to complain about a satellite launch....

....oh that axis of evil....NK got what it needed, a negotiation ploy and respect....if China want to slap NK down they would have....

....NK has learned the bushco lessen well, '...if you're nuclear made, we won't invade.'....would we have invaded Iraq if Iraq had actually had nuclear weapons?
