McAuliffe outraises governor race rival
Source: Washington Times

Gets $4 million in first quarter

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe raised more than five times the amount of his closest competitor for the Democratic nomination, bringing in more than $4 million during the first three months of this year.

"We are thrilled with the grass-roots and fundraising support we have received over the last few months," McAuliffe campaign manager Mike Henry said. "Terry's decades of experience creating jobs and turning around struggling businesses, as well as his detailed plans to get Virginia's economy back on track have resonated with Virginia voters."

McAuliffe officials said the campaign raised $4.2 million between Jan. 1 and March 31 and now has $2.5 million on hand.

2. I just received a call last night from one of "Terry McAuliffe" crones.
I gave him an earful. "No, I'm voting for Moran in the Primary on June 6th. ... NO! I don't mean any disrespect toward you but Terry McAliffe and his kind are the WORST thing to happen to the Democratic Party. They're FALSE, Blue Dog, Corporate Democrats and I won't have a damn thing to do with any of them. If McAuliffe gets the nomination, don't call me to help you get this awful man elected. ... I hope you have a nice evening."

As soon as I got off the phone my husband said, "I thought you were too sad about losing Miss Taro (our dog) to give someone hell, but you're getting back to your old self." I blushed and asked, "I told the guy I didn't mean to hurt him, was I too blunt?" My hubby quipped, "No, you're just YOU." Then my daughter chimed in, "Go Mom!"

4. Thanks, I do often try to temper my nature because I don't want to hurt anyone needlessly.
But when it works, it works. ;)

5. Couldn't agree with you more! My bet is that $4 million came from corporations, PACs etc. He
makes my skin crawl. He ruined Hillary's campaign and now he wants a chance to ruin our State. No way he'll get my vote nor one penny. Unfortunately, at this point, I'm not yet familiar with the other 2 Dem candidates but will bone up on them soon.

8. Go, Shorty, Go, Shorty, Go Shorty! Besides, this man helped take Hillary from
tne most advantaged and monied primary candidate by far to second place. Not to mention his DNC performance. And, while this is a highly subjective opinion, my opinion is that the man has only a tad more charisma than Dick Cheney.

If past performance is any indication, he may not get the nomination. Worse, if he gets it, he may lose the eletion to the Republican. Virginia is not exactly a Democratic stronghold and Obama may well have ruffled some Virginia feathers by appointing Kaine to the DNC while Kaine's term as Governor still had two years to go, leaving Virginia with, at best, a part time Governor (and/or the DNC with a part time head until after national mid-terms).

In all, chances are very good, IMO< that, if nominated, MacAuliffe would lose the election.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want to contribute to one of his primary opponents, though I live in Massachusetts, especially if Virginia's Governor has the power to fill vacant Senate seats.

12. Not Jim Moran--it is his brother, Brian J. Moran ...
snip:

"One of Mr. McAuliffe's rivals in the June 9 Democratic primary, former state Delegate Brian J. Moran, disclosed later Wednesday that he raised $800,000 within the same period.

The campaigns of state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds - the other Democrat in the race - and Republican candidate Bob McDonnell declined to release their first-quarter fundraising totals."

13. Vote for Jim Moran!!!
Croongressman Jim Moran -
I voted for him when he ran in the primaries against the Republican incumbent Stan Parris - he won the election right before I moved to Maryland. (I moved to Maryland in '96 - he ran in the late 80's or early 90's as I recall.) I distinctly recall what Moran ran on when he competed against Paris - at least two things I was interested in - more sensible gun control and pro environment.

When he ran his political background was as the former mayor of Alexandria, Va.

I have heard him interviewed frequently on WPFW - Washington DC's community oriented radio station (i.e.,powerful, positive, progressive). He as far as I can tell consistently voted on what he ran on. His daughter-in-law or son-in-law is Jewish yet he has argued for a more sensible policy toward Israel. I appologize for not giving you specifics - He has a sensible foreign policy - i.e., I think he voted against the war in Iraq.

I did not agree with him - he was apparently given a promo job when e went to Guantanamo Bay Cuba for a visit and argued on the radio that the prisoners there were treated humanely.

I don't think he's a member of the Progressive Caucus - that would probably not be viable in Va. But I think (again I don't follow those things closely) that he does vote progressive on many issues.

Because he is a Congressman, he does have name recognition. He can beat McAuliffe -

Perhaps this announcement of McAuliffe's fundraising success is some sort of campaign strategy to make McAuliffe appear as the front-runner. Jim Moran would be an excellent governor of Virginia.!!

It should be one of rags that should never ever be used.

15. Grassroots? I'm betting they didn't get most of their contributions from Virginia citizens.
Or from those that make less than $50,000.
