Union Members Rally Downtown For Employee Free Choice Act (outside Sen. Specter's office)

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh-area members of the AFL-CIO rallied in support of the Employee Free Choice Act on Tuesday.

The union members rallied outside the United Steelworkers building and Sen. Arlen Specter’s offices in downtown Pittsburgh because the senator decided not to back the Employee Free Choice Act bill.

Supporters said the bill enables workers to organize by majority open vote, and it would alter the way unions and employers work out contracts.

1. This was after sponsoring an EFCA bill in the last Congress
Senator Grandstand can sense a change in the political winds, but even he may not be pliable enough to bend to the will of the shrinking and increasingly nutty Pennsylvania Republican party and still appeal to the general electorate. Of course, he's won by betting on people's short memories before, but 2010 might be a little different than 2004.
