Suicide car bomber kills 10 people in north Iraq

KIRKUK, Iraq, April 15 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber killed 10 people and wounded 22 others in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk on Wednesday, police said.

The toll is preliminary and is likely to rise, police said, adding that the attack appeared to have targeted a convoy of police assigned to protect Iraq's northern oil infrastructure.

The attack is the latest in a series of blasts in northern Iraq, where al Qaeda and other insurgents have resisted crackdowns by U.S. and Iraqi forces even as violence has fallen elsewhere in the country.
