Michigan State professor makes vaccine for deadly E. coli strain
by The Associated Press
Sunday April 19, 2009, 4:41 PM

EAST LANSING - Michigan State University says a researcher has developed a vaccine for a strain of E. coli bacteria that kills 2 million to 3 million children a year.

A. Mahdi Saeed is a professor of epidemiology and infectious disease and has applied for a patent for the discovery.

The university says negotiations are under way with several pharmaceutical companies.

Enterotoxigenic E. coli is responsible for 60 to 70 percent of E. coli diarrheal disease. It's the cause of what's commonly called traveler's diarrhea.

6. Great step. Let's hope it succeeds in human trials.
"Saeed says mouse and rabbit studies have succeeded, and he hopes human clinical trials can begin in late 2009."

8. Wonderful! Now we can continue raising cattle knee deep in filth!
And now we don't have to use clean water to rinse the millions of chicken carcasses in the salughterhouse each day.

Oh happy Day! What a truly joyous occasion! Long live Factory Farms!

9. If you'd get off your soapbox
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 06:16 PM by SpartanDem
you'd know this little do to with factory farming "Enterotoxigenic E. coli is responsible for 60 to 70 percent of E. coli diarrheal disease. It's the cause of what's commonly called traveler's diarrhea.

The strain affects millions of people worldwide, mainly in South America and sub-Saharan Africa."

Somehow I doubt these people are sick as result of factory farming only an asshole wouldn't want something that could save millions of lives.

13. Hope this helps children and adults, there's so much MRSA in our communities,
Hospitals in America are breeding grounds for disease, in East Tennessee and Virginia health care is a joke. Profit Care comes ahead of Patient Care.

This community is festering in the stuff but everything and everyone is safe because they are at acceptable limits, levels and standards.
