Source: CNN.com

An unspecified number of passengers were reported taken hostage on a charter flight at a Jamaican airport late Sunday.

Passengers were boarding the Canjet flight on its way to Halifax, Canada, from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay “when a security breach was learned and is being managed,” said a spokeswoman for the company that manages the airport.

Spokeswoman Elizabeth Scotton said hostages were being held, but would not say how many.

About 150 people were scheduled to be on the flight, said Jamaican police Lt. Col. Derek Robinson. An unknown number were actually on the plane.

Source: BBC

A man has hijacked a passenger plane in the Jamaican resort of Montego Bay, and is still holding five crew members hostage, reports say.

More than 150 passengers were on board when the man forced his way on board the Canada-bound charter plane but all have now been released.

The man breached security and boarded as the plane was about to take off at around 2230 local time (0330 GMT).
...
The gunman reportedly checked in for the flight then forced his way past checkpoints and went on board brandishing a firearm.

He is said to have robbed passengers, most of whom were released after half an hour. A shot was reportedly fired but no-one was hit.

11. Jamaican cops are some tough hombres
About ten years ago they shot Jimmy Buffet's plane. Thought he was a drug kingpin. Imagine that!

Turns out that Jimmy was merely on a fried chicken run. He even wrote a song about it.... "Jamaican Mistaken".
