Father of 'Slumdog Millionaire' star Rubina Ali tries to sell his daughter
Source: la times

The father of “Slumdog Millionaire” child star Rubina Ali is reportedly trying to sell his beautiful little daughter for £200,000, or roughly $300,000.

According to News of the World, the father offered the shocking deal to an undercover fake sheik this week, explaining, "I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future."

As he tried to arrange the illegal adoption deal, her real-life slum dweller dad also slammed the filmmakers, "We've got nothing out of this film."

Her uncle told NOTW, "The child is special now. This is NOT an ordinary child. This is an Oscar child!"

what an asshole. the other kid who also comes from the slum was beaten by his dad for not wanting to do media events.

Danny Boyle made the right decision in holding the money for the kids until they turn 18. the whore parents would have taken it all for themselves and left nothing for the kids.

and this girl should be taken away from her father.

3. Check out the genesis of this story, yesterday.
Every lazy ass media source is picking it up, not investigating a damned thing.

5. Was it a set-up, or did he try to sell her, and why are you so intent
on trying to prove her father is a dirt bag?

I haven't even seen the movie, but this b.s. is just that. Is saw it first on HuffPo this a.m., saw the source, and recognized I'd never heard of it before. Voila, no decision there.

17. Her father and uncle tried to sell her. They're on video doing it -- actually
trying to raise the price 4 times higher than initially discussed.

Whether this makes them greedy dirt-bags, or desperate, broken people, is something people will judge for themselves.

9. I followed the links too...and I agree with you...
The links mentioned that there was a Dubai couple who wanted to adopt her. He insisted on
going to Dubai, but he could not get a passport because he was wanted by the police in India
due to a "knife fight".

Sounds like a real charming guy.

Isn't he video link in the story--evidence of him trying to sell her for a large sum of money?

It sounds like he started talking figures with the potential adoptive couple--and that he got
greedy--realizing that possibly he could get more for her.

What a scumbag.

I'm shocked to hear that this little girl is living like this after the movie. She's still
in deplorable conditions and it looks like she's living with a very horrid father.

I wish I could adopt her.

27. Let's be clear about something...
The concept of "adopting" to the wealthy in the middle east is nothing like how we adopt.

Many kids and young adults that are "adopted" basically become slaves. Various companies use the term "adopting" to get past human rights groups.

This is nothing more than slavery.

and they're taking this story seriously.

The News of the World yesterday contacted Save The Children, a charity with a strong presence in Mumbai, to seek their help with Rubina's case.

Director of Campaigns Adrian Lovett said: "Save the Children pays tribute to the News of the World for highlighting this awful reality. We will do all we can to help Rubina.

"The Indian government must sign up to the International Labour Organisation's convention for abolishing the worst forms of child labour and trafficking."

So many people are ignorant regarding the trafficking of humans.

These bastards use the term "adopting" to hide slavery.

11. That's the Brit paper--not the "Batboy" paper. You are confusing the two.
The Batboy paper was the Weekly World News, not NOTW. It was published in USA, not UK.

http://weeklyworldnews.com/

The Brit paper is lurid, but it's not like the Batboy paper, where stuff is made up out of whole cloth. NOTW is one of the most widely-read papers in UK, with a huge distribution. In the way they report the salacious, they are more like the National Enquirer, but that's not all they do. They're a daily. They have lots of pictures, and are geared towards working class people with about a sixth grade reading level.

There's film of the father and the uncle making the deal at the NOTW website. I don't think they're making this up at all:

14. I love Jim Carville. If a Democrat needs to be defended, he's like a dog with a bone.
He'll rip anyone to shit who denigrates a Dem--and that's even those Dems who aren't his favorites. I like his "attack dog" nature--it's useful when partisanship is called for, and it often is on these Talking Head shows.

24. Read that paper--it's geared towards sixth graders. Hell, NYT is geared toward
the eighth grade reading level.

Read the paper, why don't you, before you come after me. My description of both the reading difficulty and the target audience is accurate.

they have film of the transaction discussions between their reporter, posing as the buyer, and the father and uncle. I think they are telling the truth.

10. The UK 'News of the World', from which the story originates, is
several grades down from the National Enquirer. It is, and always has been light on truth and facts but extra heavy on scandal, unfounded gossip and sensationalism. It's a dirt bag rag!

15. They've got film on their site of the father and the uncle "making the deal" with their reporter.
Their reporter posed as a shiek in this faux transaction.

I'd say they're about the same as the Enquirer. They go for working class tabloid news and the odd "tug at the heartstrings" story.

If she starves to death, it won't be the fault of the movie-makers.
