Cuba to limit Mexico flights amid swine flu fears
Source: Reuters UK

The Cuban government said on Monday it would limit flights to and from Mexico as one of its measures to prevent an outbreak of swine flu on the island nation. Representatives of Cubana Airlines said the state-owned carrier had canceled its Havana-to-Mexico City flight for Tuesday, but not yet for the days beyond that.

One official with the airline said the flight was suspended due to swine flu precautions. But another said it was canceled for other reasons and that it had nothing to do with the illness that has killed 103 people so far in Mexico.

-

Government sources told Reuters that medical teams would question passengers arriving on flights from Mexico and check them during their visit to Cuba to see if they showed signs of illness.

Medical personnel throughout the island were to be briefed on what to look for and how to deal with any cases of swine flu they found.

The EU had already issued advisory travel warnings for both Mexico and the USA - essential travel only advised.

edit : UK Foreign Office has just done the same for Mexico only.

Oh, I forgot. We cant close our border, because produce doesn't pick itself. You might have to pay people a working wage if you were forced to hire Americans.

5. LOL you make a good point but.....

your comment about "produce doesn't pick itself" most of the Mexicans that are working in picking produce are illegal. Cuba is LIMITING their flights. U.S can do the same, it would be a good idea, but we also have those that do not travel through the plane and cross the borders illegally because they are not residents nor citizens. It will be hard to prevent those that come in illegally. Just hopefully they stay where they are at, for the health of others, but I doubted. We have many illegals crossing the border in one day. I don't think closing the borders would help, since they always find a way to come into the U.S

6. that was my point
I just think that it is ironic that a potential pandemic still isn't reason enough for this country to address that problem. there probably will be an outbreak, and congress will want to hold committee hearings to determine who screwed up, instead of taking measures to prevent it in the first place.
