Albania to apply for EU membership
Source: Daily Telegraph

Sali Berisha, Albania's prime minister, will make the membership application ahead of critical national elections this summer.

"Albania will apply," he said. "We have made the important decision to submit the formal request to be a candidate country to the EU on April 28."

Mr Berisha, who came to power on an anti-corruption ticket four years ago, faces close international scrutiny over parliamentary elections to be held on June 28.

EU diplomats have stressed that Albania's entry will be tied to tough conditions on political reform and that the application not be processed until after the vote.

1. Inevitable I guess given their geographical location
40 Fifty years ago most Albanians still used bicyles as their main method of transport and lived a village type of existance. Nowadays 25% of the entire population live in the capital.

I'd only baulk at the thought of those fucking nuicances in the Ukraine and Georgia applying to join.

I hope ALBANIA are not given membership into the EU yet... That country har far to mutch issues to solve before been welcomed into the EU... They claim sovernigy over wast parts of other euroean country's, like FYR Macedonia and Greece. So before this two issues is solved I for one would not try to get Albania into the EU for a long time..Off course Albania can applay al what they want for it, but it is enough that just one country in the EU dosen't want, and then Albania would not be allowed into EU for a couple of years... And Greece have mor or less clearly told the world, that if Albania is trying to get into EU, it have to go true Greece too..

3. That country has absolutely zero chance of joining the EC
Turkey will get into the EC before Albania, given how crime-infested and corrupt Albania is. And Turkey ain't getting into the EC for a looong time.

4. Right-wing propaganda alert:
The right-wing English paper Daily Telegraph claims: "Mr Berisha, who came to power on an anti-corruption ticket four years ago". In actuality, Berisha is the most corrupt, right-wing thug in Albania. If he does not rig this years election, he will surely lose.

5. Actually you are forgetting the Telegraph's main spin on all EU issues
The Daily Telegraph is one of a number of UK newspapers who are virulently Euro-Sceptic, even downright anti-EU.
