Two cases of swine flu have been discovered in Marin County, the first confirmations that the virus is present in the Bay Area.

The Marin County Public Health office said a 60-year-old woman and her 20-month-old granddaughter tested positive for the virus. Both had recently traveled to Mexico with other family members and both developed “moderate flu illness after their return,” according to a release issued by Marin Health and Human Services.

Health officials said the child has recovered and the grandmother was experiencing only mild symptoms. Other family members who traveled to Mexico are not ill.

A press conference was scheduled at 3 p.m. today to issue more information.

1. I'm surprised it took that long!
It sounds like these two will be okay, though. That's good.

2. Christ on a freaking cracker!
OR as Larry King said last night, what else besides panicking can we do?

It's moving north to ME. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I have never had a sore throat and felt sick while a pandemic broke out. Does this mean I get to be a pandemic pundit? I have the aches to prove it,dammit.

3. Don't you know that this is yet another Obama plot
to further socialize our nation. Either that or it's a media plot to draw attention away from Obama's inept administration. Or maybe it's the end times. At least that's what nutball conservative sites are saying.

4. And in more good news, I just heard Fielding (LADPH) tell the LA County
Board of Supervisors that one of the two suspected swine flu deaths here was NOT swine flu related at all. Results on the second are pending.
