Bush-era endangered species rule revoked

The Obama administration on Tuesday revoked a rule enacted toward the end of the Bush administration that it said undermined protections under the Endangered Species Act.

Federal agencies must "once again consult with federal wildlife experts at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — the two agencies that administer the ESA — before taking any action that may affect threatened or endangered species," the Interior and Commerce departments said in a statement.

"By rolling back this 11th hour regulation, we are ensuring that threatened and endangered species continue to receive the full protection of the law," said Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, whose department oversees Fish and Wildlife.

6. Why have they not restored protection to the Yellowstone wolves and in
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 09:21 PM by MasonJar
fact extended it to the wolves of Sarah Palin's Alaska? I am very upset and have called the Interior Dept. regarding the Salazar ruling (Westerners seem to love to kill wolves) and was told the population had regained its status in mid-Bush era. I reminded the man who answered my call that even the most anti-environment president of all time had not reneged on the protection of the wolves of Yellowstone and asked him why it had taken Obama/Salazar less than 2 months to remove the protections that Bush had allowed to remain in place. He said he would pass my concerns on. I asked if he expected the policy to be rescinded and he answered no. Please help me by calling Salazar. This needs a lot of action. I am disgusted with Obama's administration for this vicious and irresponsible response to the lives of innocent fellow creatures which deserve to live without fear of armed gunmen. PLEASE HELP WITH A CALL TO THE INTERIOR DEPT. asap.
