Time Warner plans to spin off AOL
Source: BBC

US media giant Time Warner has said it anticipates spinning off one or more parts of AOL as advertising sales decline at the internet business.

The announcement came after Time Warner posted stronger-than-expected profits and reaffirmed its full-year forecast.

Net profits for the first quarter came in at $661m (£448.8m), a fall of 14% from the $771m reported a year earlier.

Revenue at the company, which owns Time magazine and the CNN and HBO television networks, fell by 7% to $6.9bn.

3. Vampires
They bought AOL, then sucked all the life out of it, now they are ready to throw it away like a useless carcass.

8. Acutally I think AOL...
aquired Time Warner in 2000. AOL shareholders got 1 share, while Time Warner holders received 1.5 shares for every share...

5. I thought AOL picked up Time Warner,
shouldn't it be AOL spins off Time Warner.

Maybe next BOA will spin off NCNB.

12. When the merger proved to be a dud, the 'TimeWarner' part of 'AOL TimeWarner' reasserted itself
and took full control of the company, eventually dropping AOL from it's title.

6. Believe it or not, people are still using AOL.
In my line of work, it's necessary to take a customer's email address to set up service for them, and I'd guess that 5-10% of the people I deal with use AOL.

Still don't know why anyone would use it nowadays...

13. because of chat rooms and easy to use email.
There are still plenty of people on aol. Hell, I started on that service about 15 years ago. It's a no-brainer for beginners. When I left it was filled with phishers and porn freaks. Don't know if it's changed much since then.

14. I goT it years ago.... in the 90s
It was very user friendly and, actually, great!

I still have it for the mere reason I hate switching over from something I can use easily to something I must figure out how to use. But it just crashes and takes up half my disc space (it seems)

Anyway....my new modem for my new provider just arrived so I will be dropping AOL this week....but keeping my mail there.

But AOL used to be very user friendly and OK. Not now....

10. AOL - LOL!
Those CD-ROMs that they used to spray the landscape with make dandy coasters. I've still got one under my coffee cup:

"It's New! It's Fast! Hook up to a world of fun and excitement for 15 hours Free!"
