Tillman's parents want general's record reviewed
Source: AP:

WASHINGTON – The parents of slain Army Ranger and NFL star Pat Tillman voiced concerns Tuesday that the general who played a role in mischaracterizing his death could be put in charge of military operations in Afghanistan.

In a brief interview with The Associated Press, Pat Tillman Sr. accused Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal of covering up the circumstances of the 2004 slaying.

"I do believe that guy participated in a falsified homicide investigation," Pat Tillman Sr. said.

Separately, Mary Tillman called it "imperative" that McChrystal's record be carefully considered before he is confirmed.

4. What a slap in the family's face
The man responsible for hiding the truth should have lost his career by now.

The old adage still holds true in the military: "F**k up, move up."

5. Good for the Tillman's. What happened to their son is unforgivable,
if not cold-blooded murder. This dismissal of the general to put in Petraus' man is smelly. Why did they do it so publicly? The ex-soldier on Rachel raved about McChrystal because he served under him.

6. After all the good things I heard about McChrystal on Rachel Maddow tonight, this is
very disturbing.

Just following orders, no doubt.

8. What's good about this guy?
He sounds like another Rumsfeld:

"Did newly announced top Afghan general run Cheney's assassination wing?"

It was a point of pride that the Red Cross would never be allowed in the door, Jeff says. This is important because it defied the Geneva Conventions, which require that the Red Cross have access to military prisons. "Once, somebody brought it up with the colonel. 'Will they ever be allowed in here?' And he said absolutely not. He had this directly from General McChrystal and the Pentagon that there's no way that the Red Cross could get in--they won't have access and they never will. This facility was completely closed off to anybody investigating, even Army investigators."

9. Based on the fella, Exum, who was on Rachel Maddow, this guy is Petraeus' golden boy
protege and one of the top intellectuals among our military brass.

The word was that he was going to be Petraeus' counter-insurgency commander par excellence in a bid to win over the Afghan people.

At least that's what I got out of it.

Sometimes I'm just too hopeful, I guess.

11. Thanks, yeah he sounds like a real gem
Apparently he supervised or ran some kind of "special ops" torture outfit called Task Force 121:

Formed in the summer of 2003, it quickly became notorious. By August the CIA had already ordered its officers to avoid Camp Nama. Then two Iraqi men died following encounters with Navy Seals from Task Force 121--one at Abu Ghraib and one in Mosul--and an official investigation by a retired Army colonel named Stuart Herrington, first reported in The Washington Post, found evidence of widespread beatings. "Everyone knows about it," one Task Force officer told Herrington. Six months later, two FBI agents raised concerns about suspicious burn marks and other signs of harsh treatment. Then the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency reported that his men had seen evidence of prisoners with burn marks and bruises and once saw a Task Force member "punch prisoner in the face to the point the individual needed medical attention."

12. You would think President Obama would know about this kind of shit. On the other hand,
if he relies upon Petraeus for his info it's highly unlikely Petraeus is going to rat on one of his proud pupils.

Oh great. The beat goes on.

15. Please. None of Obama's staff has Google? That is the same question I used to
ask when Dummya was in the Oval Office and did things like hire thug Kerik. Sad I'm still asking.

It's only been 60 years, more or less. Still, once more, repeat this until it's burned into the brain of every American President and every other American:

21. come on, the * junta got rid of the great generals
remember, they were the ones that actually weren't "yes" clowns. I'd say some in command now, are not the best this country has to offer. Maybe, Obama should offer those generals who were let go by the neo-cons their jobs back. Now that's change I could go for. Let me tell you, the US Army should be investigated right now. Soldiers in the Army, I believe, are committing suicide at greater rates--and I believe it's how they are being treated by officers and the system, especially disabled soldiers. My daughter is in the Army and is disabled and she's due to get out-I'm praying they let her out--but there playing games with not only her, but others who are disabled. Just this last week a soldier committed suicide and I think there were two others who attempted. I believe there is low moral in the Army and they're treating those who are disabled like shite (I don't know if they're attempting to harass them to relinquish their benefits (especially is they're disabled and have not gone to Iraq or Afghanistan) or if they've just implemented some really unconscionable, assholish policies.

7. Tillman family
Their son was a patriotic American. Now it's time for the Tillman family to honor his memory and get to the bottom of his death.

the Tillman story must be heard and we at DU need to "catapult the propaganda", to steal a catchy phrase from the Dark Ages of Bush.

Only this time we want to eliminate the bullshit, not create it!

10. General McChrystal warned his superiors that it may have been friendly fire, 7 days after Tillman's
death. Medals for valor are given even in cases of friendly fire.

The fact is that JSOC has been going after some real bad people. It was the CIA that ran the rendition program, not JSOC.

22. Tillman's death was no accident
I don't subscribe to most "conspiracy theories" but they simply couldn't let him get back in the country let alone word of his disapproval of Bush and scheduled meeting with Chomsky get out.

They, in my opinion, were going to put him in as many hazardous situations as possible.
a green platoon
strange orders to split up the platoon
and the "Afghanistan man" who no one NO ONE seems to know who he was
3 headshots from 20 feet

Tillman was no accident.

Shame on the Republicon Chickenhawks, and their manipulation of Pat Tillman's death. Just disgustingly anti-American, anti-truth, anti-integrity.
