GOP Sen. hopeful heard calling Schumer 'that Jew'
Source: Associated Press

<snip>

"A Republican state lawmaker hoping for his party's nod to run for Senate reportedly referred to Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer as "that Jew" during a recent appearance before a Republican group.

State Sen. Kim Hendren told The Associated Press on Thursday that he was wrong to refer to Schumer's religious affiliation during a Pulaski County Republican Committee meeting last week. Hendren said he doesn't remember the exact wording of his comment, but he was quoted by conservative blogger Jason Tolbert as calling Schumer "that Jew."

"I ought not to have referred to it at all," Hendren told the AP. "When I referred to him as Jewish, it wasn't because I don't like Jewish people."

Hendren, 71, said he made the reference as he talked about comments the senior senator made criticizing some elements of the Republican Party.

"I shouldn't have gotten into this Jewish business because it distracts from the issue," Hendren said."

8. Plenty of good ammo to use on Chuck Scummer
The reference was tasteless and bigoted.

Scummer on the other hand has more character and judgment flaws than my dog has wrinkles on his testicles (Stole this reference)

16. you'd hope so. but then again, its arkansas
a state in which one-tenth of one percent of the population is Jewish. I daresay that a large percentage, if not a majority, of Arkansans have never met someone who is Jewish.

14. Check out his "apology"

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/archives/2009/05/schumer_accepts.php

Charles Schumer has issued a statement about that Arkansas state senator who called him "that Jew." Schumer's statement is, "Apology accepted." Actually it wasn't much of an apology -- what Republican lawmaker Kim Hendren said was, "I shouldn't have gotten into this Jewish business because it distracts from the issue" (illegal immigration, which he was discussing while sharing a jug with some locals at the Pulaski County Republican Committee Meeting and Fish Fry) and "When I referred to him as Jewish, it wasn't because I don't like Jewish people." Also, "At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Senator Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on The Andy Griffith Show," which sentiments Southerners traditionally abbreviate into anti-semitic slurs. Guess Chuck didn't want to make too much of it, and he's not likely to ever see Hendren in Washington or New York, or anywhere else they don't have spittoons and outhouses.
