Auto Part Manufacturer Lays Off Nearly 600 In NE Ohio

CANTON, Ohio -- An axle and drive-shaft manufacturer that gets most of its work from General Motors Corp. and Chrysler has laid off nearly 600 people at three northeast Ohio locations.

Colfor Manufacturing and its parent company said it will cut production at American Axle & Manufacturing's Colfor plants in Minerva, Malvern and Salem, all located east of Canton.

Company spokeswoman Renee Rogers confirmed the layoffs Thursday. She said automaker cutbacks last week forced the parts maker to make cuts of its own.

GM and Chrysler account for about 84 percent of the company's revenue.

1. That's the real
trickle-down economics the Republicans were talking about.

2. I agree.. workers in NE Ohio are hurting....it is very sad..
..but I do remember thousands of people in NE Ohio lining up last fall to see Sarah Palin and John McCain?

People in Cleveland vote against their own best interests.. then act surprised when their jobs disappear?

How many years was George Voinavich and the Republicans given free reign over the area? The steel mills closed and jobs sent to China.

There is no group of people who have a stonger work ethic than NE Ohio. They need to take a look at who sent their jobs away and act accordingly.

4. NE Ohio is the Democratic Stronghold of Ohio.
I believe over 73% (probably more last election) are Democrats. Cleveland/Cuyahoga county has always been the bluest area in Ohio. Maybe you're thinking of Columbus or the Southern regions of Ohio that are primarily Republican.

3. It's pretty much a certainty that GM will file for bankruptcy
at the end of the month.
