Economic bright spots suggest recovery may be near
Source: Tennessean

NEW YORK — A private research group's forecast of economic activity rose more than expected in April, the first gain in seven months and fresh evidence that the recession could end later this year.

The Conference Board, a business trade group, said Thursday that its index of leading economic indicators — designed to forecast the U.S. economy's health over the next three to six months — edged 1 percent higher last month to match its level from last November.

Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein said the increase could signal modest growth in the overall economy in the second half of this year.

Ten components, including stock prices, the money supply, jobless claims and new orders by manufacturers, make up the key indicators.
The Conference Board said strengths among the various bits of data exceeded weaknesses for the first time in months.

8. I don't "like" it or "dislike" it.
It's an Easter Bunny report.

I'll just have no sympathy later for those who choose to use it to make financial decisions and lose.

2. Ummmm......
If you happen to be one of the millions of unemployed or underemployed, odds are economic indicators don't mean shit to you. It will take years for the millions of jobs that have been lost to be replaced.

3. I'm still unemployed
And just because the unemployment figures have gone down, does not mean that those off the unemployment rolls have found jobs or jobs that pay a living wage.

Obama's Wall Street plans are to reinflate the last bubble, but that's not the change we can believe in.

6. That's a relief...
I've been starting to get worried.

"The Conference Board, a business trade group..." What? Is Walmart building a new distribution center and happy days are here again?

I don't care if Walmart sells cheap plastic crap...I just want that cheap plastic crap made here.

What? Those transformers too hard for us to do.

Ahh, screw it...maybe I'll just go paint the fence.
