AHNOttawa, Ontario (AHN) - The federal government of Canada is refuting statements by Defense Minister Peter MacKay that the country is considering lifting an 11-year ban on arm sales to Pakistan, according to a report.
The communications director of Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon on Thursday told the Globe and Mail that Ottawa's policy toward military exports to Islamabad will not change.
Earlier this week, MacKay had told the Mail otherwise during an interview while he was in Islamabad meeting with Pakistan's president and other officials.
Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Naela Chohan is also quoted by the daily as saying she has received word from Canadian diplomats that Ottawa is considering lifting the ban.
