On edit from Pittsburgh news:
A United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Chicago carrying U.S. Sen. Roland Burris of Illinois and White House social secretary Desiree Rogers was forced to make an emergency landing this afternoon after the pilot reported a problem with the plane's hydraulics.
JoAnne Jenny, spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Airport Authority, said the pilot of the Airbus 319 jetliner contacted the tower at Pittsburgh International Airport at 12:15 p.m. to report the problem.
Airport officials issued an emergency alert and routed the plane to Runway 28 Left.
"The plane stopped at the end of the runway," Ms. Jenny said. "Fire and emergency crews responded. But the plane landed without incident. There was no damage to the aircraft, no fire and no injuries."
Ms. Jenny said passengers got off the plane via portable stairs and were bused to the gate. The alert was lifted at 2:28 p.m.
