Germany: Bush Likely to Attend D - Day Ceremony
BERLIN (Reuters) - President Bush will likely attend ceremonies marking the 60th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings, a German official said Monday after Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder met Bush Friday.

Bush has been invited to the ceremonies in France in June but has not yet accepted.

A senior German official told Reuters that U.S. officials dropped clear hints he would be attending the event.

``They did not exactly come out and say it, but it was clear between the lines that he will come,'' the official said, after the talks in Washington between German and U.S. officials.

18. oh come on....
We may hate the BUSHwackers and their gubbermint but D-Day is one of those historical events that we all must never forget as americans. The sacrifices of all those brave soldiers at Normandy deserve respect from every US president regardless of party affiliation.

We should not let partison hatred cast shadows over that which was truly a rightious event during WWII that ensured the evil of hitler's nazis were defeated forever.

Let us not belittle the lives of those brave souls who perished at Normandy by making them the subject of hatred for Bush or anybody.

20. Tell that to his daddy
who jumped out of the plane he was piloting during the war, deserting his crew and leaving them to crash and die in the ocean (story supported by eyewitnesses).

No one in that family has any right to dirty such a ceremony with their presence. It's just WRONG.

25. Tell that to the US Vets that he snubbed
last time he went to Normandy for a D-Day celebration.

As part of the ceremony, Bu$h was going to speak and when he was done he was suppose to go past the Vets, who had been told to stand in a particular spot, so he could stop to shake their hands and have a few words. Apparently when the time came Bu$h blew it and instead he just walked past them. My friend, one of the vets who was there told me, "He didn't even look us in the eye". That's how W treats the brave souls who survived D-Day and are still alive. He couldn't even remember to stop for a moment and acknowledge their existence.

We should never forget that Granpda Prescott Bush was "Hitler's Angel".

Perhaps Emperor Bunypants* can lob an artillery shell at the water for Grandpa Prescott's Dear Old Friend.

otherwise, bush would probably get his ass shot off by a real soldier when he gets that sanctimonious look on his face at the ceremony.

11. He was invited to this a long time ago but hadn't responded
until now. He's going, but dragging his feet.

Oh, aren't they clever to figure this out:

The German official said the Bush administration felt it would be ill-advised for the president to alienate France on such an occasion. It would then be difficult, the official said, to try to show the United States and France as close allies days later at the G8 and NATO summits.

The United States hosts the June 8-10 G8 summit on Sea Island, Georgia. NATO leaders meet in late June in Istanbul.

12. well the last time, he was photo oped
strutting through the Nprmandy graveyard white crosses as if he were really a "vet" and Laura was photo oped wearing a curtain of some type as a shawl over her black pants and black looking demeanor and she left early also.

Maybe the delay is because Laura cannot find the appropriate drapery to wear to Normandy?

If he does go he sould be booed out of the entire thing as a phoney cowardly commander in chief who does not represent more than half of the people of the United STates. He is merely an actor and a bad one at that who cannot seem to understand his lines.

14. Bush would have been willing to respond sooner
if Karl could have thought up some way to make this all about the boy governor.

Bush does nothing unless it is self-promoting and walks on or dishonors the graves of the dead.

17. Bush thinks this ceremony is in Normandy, Oklahoma....
"Hey, isn't that where the Sooners play," he was quoted as asking?

They told him he could wear a red football uniform and run out on the battlefield in yet another attempt to become a one man imitation of The Village People.

seriously, though, as President he has a role at D-Day commemoration. Let's hope he doesn't blow it, or, more likely, make it a campaign stop.....

28. *sigh*
My dad was a WWII veteran. He died last year. In a way, I'm glad he doesn't have to deal with this.

He would not be happy seeing Bunnypants hitch up his drawers and pose for a chickenhawk photo-op at Normandy.

Yeah, he's pResident. Idiot has to be there. Doesn't mean I have to like it. I do hope a lot of veterans are watching, though; 2nd Lt. Moran will commit some horrible faux pas despite being the recipient of the most expensive on-the-job training the world has ever seen.

Sixty years ago, Captain Awol wasn't even beyond the twinkle in Poppy's eye for Bar. Oops, sorry, that's a horrible image, nevermind.

30. For us, Bush represents the USA...
Disastrous, but it's like that.

If he will never be welcome in France he has to honor the US soldiers because it's his duty.

He lands, goes to the ceremony and we return him to you.
