GOP Prosecutor In NC Targets Dems On Obama's Watch
Source: CBS News

snip

A Republican appointee left in charge for an unusually long time by a Democratic White House, Holding has planned investigations into some of the state's top political figures, including two-time presidential candidate John Edwards and former Gov. Mike Easley and his wife.

Holding won't confirm corruption investigations in his district, though subpoenas indicate his office is looking into Easley's travel and his wife's $170,000 job at North Carolina State University. And Edwards, a former U.S. senator, has acknowledged a federal probe into his presidential campaign funds.

Edwards and Easley, who both insist the investigations will turn up no wrongdoing, are two of the most prominent Democrats in North Carolina. That has complicated the replacement process for Holding, who ordinarily would have been on the way out with the change in administration.

Democrats are unwilling to criticize Holding's work, let alone take the politically charged step of unseating him while he's overseeing probes involving members of their party.

1. You think that is why Holding is investigating these men?
So that he can keep his job? Is he one of the GOP moles kept in the DOJ to do anything but seek justice, or is he more the Patrick Fitzgerald type?

2. To be fair, the Easley matter is disgusting
and I am a NC State alumna. The fact that Mary Easley was hired at $170,000, which is way more than most of the NC State faculty, including Nobel Prize winners, just to teach a couple of management and political science classes is shady, at best.

3. The Easley mess has legs. Heads have rolled at NC State at the highest
level for involvement in hiring Mary Easley at a very pricey salary in a custom tailored job that was
not posted for recruitment--looks very much like political payoff.

Who knows about the Edwards thing?

4. I know that if he spent the money I contributed to his presidential campaign

on booty, then he's got some trouble coming.

6. Not so in the case of the Easley investigation, McCamy. I'm a Tarheel and I've known
Mike Easley since I was a teenager. Voted for him for governor. The situation with his wife's appointment appears to be political corruption at its finest/worst--take your pick.

The Democratic "machine" in North Carolina could use some scrutiny. So could the Republicans.

Whatever comes of the Easley and Edwards investigations, both will either exonerate the politician or hurt them, but I'm glad they're taking place. I wish more of my N.C. tax dollars were used to root out political corruption.
