UPDATE: 'More Than One Jack the Ripper' - Latest Claim - ENGLAND

'More Than One Jack the Ripper' - Latest Claim
By Gary Kelly, PA News

FROM: http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=2623937
More than one person probably carried out the series of gory murders attributed to the notorious Jack the Ripper, it was claimed today.

Former murder squad detective Trevor Marriott said it was highly unlikely the same killer had been responsible for the “double event murders” when the bodies two of the Ripper’s victims were discovered within 12 minutes of each other.

“My theory is that had the Ripper been responsible for the first murder and had been disturbed as has been suggested, he would have been in a great hurry to escape from the area.

“It is highly unlikely that the murderer would have stopped a second time to murder a second victim in such a short space of time,” he added.

Mr Marriott, a former detective constable in Bedfordshire Police was in Londonderry today to deliver a presentation entitled “Jack the Ripper: Man or Myth”.

1. I thought Patricia Cornwell made an excellent case.
It's hard to dispute that Sickert was the one after reading her research.

2. She had a lot of circumstantial evidence, but nothing solid.
I think it was Tumblety. Check out the definitive Ripperology site.

7. I've been a "Ripperite" for years...
and I agree that it is either Francis Tumblety or someone(s)forever unknown.

10. Thanks, fellow Ripperologist.
All I want is for Canada to get its proper due as a breeding ground for Victorian psychopaths. Is that too much to ask?

14. Sickert doesn't fit the profile, but It's impossible to prove either way.
Anyway, we haven't been able to clear up who murdered the Princes in the Tower, so Jack can wait til we've cleared that one up!

3. She does make a good case...

I actually have her book in my list of books to read, and from what I've heard she does make a good point. I think the whole thing is so fascinating,

Since I was the one who posted the first article that you linked to, this second article is quite different and actually an update to that one,

16. Montague John Druitt..
His family was horrified enough by what they saw happening to him....while the city was in an uproar over the murders, they suspected him and tried to get the cops to intervene....too late: druitt committed suicide right after kelly murder.
scotland yard believed it was druitt. he was an aristocrat, which caused problems in 1880's and for a long time after...no one has said sickert never sent letters etc to the cops....which may get him a 'obstructing justice' conviction ....
knowing who did those 5 murders sorta ruins the mystery, but druitt's almost certainly the man.
besides tumbley, james morwood(?) sickert and several others, there were literally hundreds of bullying punks who enjoyed haunting slums etc raping and terrorising the poor, which never caused the victorians any concern...today we get only glimpses of how nasty things were in those day, and that's largely thanks to the victorian's hypocrisy, the jack the ripper case was complicated by druitt's upper class credentials...so complicated that a rather minor sordid sex crime lives on in infamy while robert picton or gary ridgeway type monsters etc are largely unknown and thought boring...
