Maria Shriver 'sorry' over phone
Source: bbc

The First Lady of California, Maria Shriver, has apologised for twice breaking a state law relating to using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.

It follows the publication of two photos by a well-known celebrity website of Ms Shriver driving her car while not using a hands-free device.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote on his Twitter site that he would take "swift action" over his wife's actions.

Ms Shriver has issued a statement about donating her phone to a local charity.

1. Take "swift action" over his wife's actions...that is sick.
Arnie, let's talk about you running the state of CA into the gutter. What say you there? Maria should have handled it herself before jelly belly felt compelled to get involved.

Nothing irks me more on the road.

16. My hair has turned grey from being a cab driver in a cell phone society
You have any idea how many times daily I was nearly killed by people on their phone? The obly thing that prevented it is that I was paying attention and have pretty good reflexes. They would have gleefully chatted right up until their own doom.

22. The worse is driving behind someone who holds the phone in one hand
and gesticulates with the other. One has to wonder how the driver steers the car, if at all.

Or a soccer mom turning back to scold the kids in the back seat while still chatting.

26. I'd rather be behind them than in front of them
If they're in front of me I have options and may be able to avoid an accident. If they're behind me there's nothing I can do if they decide to run into me.

17. Really?
No problems with someone driving a 6,000 lb vehicle while distracted? I guess there should be "rules for them" and "rules for us".

28. I sure as hell do if I'm the unfortunate pedestrian trying to cross the street
in front of her. I walk a lot (unusual in Los Angeles, I know) - if I could have a nickel for every rich bitch in a big black SUV yakking on a cell phone who almost ran over me when I had the right of way, I could fucking retire.

She'll buy another phone tomorrow and start up again - but she'll get her car windows tinted darker first. I know how these kind of people operate.

And yeah, I have completely and permanently lost all respect for her.

I was actually remarking on the poor writing. A professional writer should really do better - or at least the editor.

Courtier: "My Queen, the peasants cannot phone while driving."

Queen Maria: "Let them use landlines."

On the plus side I would have thought she would have had a chauffeur.

31. When did your mom cease to matter? Hell, even Teddy was only 50% a Kennedy.
I know what you mean, though. When Ethel Kennedy's relative was on trial for murder, the media referred to him as a "kennedy cousin" though he had zero Kennedy genes.

32. She donated ONE used cell phone to charity and apologized? Is that the penalty in California for
driving with a cell phone? If not, why is she getting special treatment?

"I know this man...." (Shriver, defending Ahnuld after he was accused of groping and before he {sort of} admitted it.)
