Jerry Springer is nowhere in sight and empty beer cans do not litter the floor, but a new breed of "trailer trash" has set up camp in the grounds of Saddam Hussein's former presidential palace.

Thousands of government staff mostly from the US have spent the past few months living in "sardine cans" -- rows of grey, tin caravans as well as tents in the old backyard of the ousted dictator.

Beds have even been packed into a palace throne room to house the overspill.

1. They used to call them "Quansot huts". (I apoligize for the spelling.)

I looked it up...and, couldn't find the correct spelling. But, these were cheap, short-term accomodations for the troops C. WWII.

BTW, I read that many of the cots in Iraq provided by Halliburton were collapsible (involuntary)...so, IMHO, Uncle Same should charge Cheney and his Co. for the defective merchandise!

The collapsing cots were made in China.

Quonset hut is the way I remember the spelling, by the way.
