Cindy Sheehan leads protest at CIA, Cheney's house
Source: Washington Post

LANGLEY, Va. -- A group led by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has protested near the CIA's headquarters and former Vice President Dick Cheney's home in northern Virginia.

They were protesting the use of unmanned drone aircraft to attack al-Qaida and Taliban targets.

The group of about 70 people rallied alongside a highway near the CIA compound Saturday. About half then marched to Cheney's nearby street and stayed for 20 minutes. Police kept them from going down his street.

16. Got Cindy a little attention.
This person is not the best representative of her cause. Her voice is usually annoying and alienating. Often borderline nauseating. Her sincerity may be genuine but not received that way by the world at large.

Sometimes you need a good front person. Cindy is not that.

31. I'm always reluctant to criticize Cindy
Am sure I sound insensitive and what not.

But I mean my god... A person's voice counts.

I didn't even mind Abbie Hoffman and other so-called "anti war rabble rousers". There's a time to make noise. Do it! I say.

But poor Cindy is not a gifted speaker. Her message will be lost on the masses from the irritating tone her vocal chords make. She may even do more harm than good to her cause. This needs to be stated.

Think about it: Let's say you're a Conservative smear artist (like anyone from Fox News). WHO would you highlight to throw the Peace movement in a negative light?

Your first choice would be Cindy Sheehan. Her voice plays to the middle American impression of "angry, whining Liberals".

This is not a fair representation of Cindy, but that is the automatic and widespread outlook of the average American.

So put her in charge of letter writing campaigns, fund raising, or anyplace where the only audience is her own kind. Even myself for instance. But don't you dare stick a microphone in front of her in anything resembling a national debate.

53. What have you done in response to criticism of Cindy?
And what has Cindy done in response to criticism? Might be the better question.

Robert Kennedy Jr. is an example of a person, while not possessing the best speaking voice has brought people together and added credibility to his various causes. He is also brilliant, and works well on a sound, focused track of progressive liberal efforts. He also is getting a lot done. In this analysis I don't find his speaking voice all that irritating. Doesn't give me the feeling he's in it mostly to draw attention to himself.

I can't say that Cindy gives me that same impression.

This is a new one though. I've never yet heard anyone criticize her because she isn't enough like Robert Kennedy Jr. Congratulations for being so original.

37. I don't always agree with Cindy these days, but a bereaved mother has a right. I met her just after
... Casey was killed. She came out to Arlington West here in Santa Barbara, along with her family. We were having a ceremony in honor of Mother's Day, which was originally a Peace Movement idea before Hallmark Cards got hold of it. And Cindy came.

By God, a bereaved mother has a right.

46. I'm sorry I worked to get him elected.
He has continued most of bush's worst mandates and increased a few. Increased drone strikes that kill hundreds of civilians on each strike, no meaningful tax hikes for the wealthy, HC reform that only benefits insurance companies, continued eavesdropping on innocent Americans without court orders (before or after the offense), no war crimes investigation...etc...sorry but "I think we could have a meaningful dialog about it" if we keep it honest.

39. I think
she is going where it will make the most military difference. Cheney is still overseeing covert ops that he started. A wink and a nod from Washington, makes it okay.dubya and clinton were just "tasked" with overseeing the Haiti rescues. Dumya, is the one who intensified partisanship to unprecedented levels. I voted for and like Clinton, I realize that he is the best Republican President we have ever had. Come on, there is only one party with two faces. I hope we change this before 2012 and run Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson..or whomever the MSM declares viable. Poor Dennis, they fucked him good.

41. Okay, I don't get it...
...Cheney's been out of office for how long now? The CIA answers to the current president. This is a meaningless gesture. If Sheehan is antiwar, why isn't she in front of Clinton's house or the White House? The State Department and the Executive branch escalated the situation in Afghanistan, and just recently, too. I say, the more drones the better; that's our schtick, the other side uses suicide bombing, which is hardly a selective method to kill a particular individual. Cindy just misses dat ol' spotlight, I suspect. But she's gutless because she doesn't dare draw a crowd in front of the White House... just like people who dis Christianity but are too frightened to say a word about Islam. I'm underwhelmed.

are carrying on the same policies as Bush/Cheney, including the continued use of drones, which is what she is protesting, then Obama and Biden are war criminals too. Why isnt she protesting them?

54. Cindy is not a Democrat, and her running against Pelosi was one of the things I disagreed...
... with her doing, from a distance. But she's the one who lost her son in BUSH'S War, not me. It's all about ending war with her, as far as I can tell, and it overrides all other considerations -- again, as far as I can tell. I do know that she has continued to be close to the Veterans for Peace, among whom I count some personal friends.
