Truck explodes at San Antonio refinery

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters are trying to control a two-alarm blaze raging at a fuel refinery on the city’s south side where a tanker truck exploded at a loading dock, injuring at least two workers and forcing widespread evacuations.

A black plume of smoke was visible 40 miles away as firefighters went door-to-door urging residents to stay at least one mile from the fire, which threatens to ignite nearby fuel supplies.

Firefighters were weighing options on how to control the blaze, which was still raging two hours later. Hood said the 100 firefighters at the scene mainly were trying to keep nearby combustible materials from igniting.

The company, which serves the U.S. Air Force, handles jet fuel and diesel, Campbell said. The facility is the city’s only refinery.

11. I know someone that lives about 5 miles away
and he was outside when the explosion happened and he didn't hear a thing. It apparently was a lot more smoke than fire. The FD only made it a 2-alarm fire.

12. A two-alarm fire requires 100 firemen?
A five-alarm fire here still wouldn't come close to that.

Refinery fire stabilized

By Peter Holley and Michelle Mondo - Express-News

Firefighters stabilized a two-alarm blaze at a fuel refinery on the city’s South Side after a tanker truck exploded at a loading dock, injuring at least two workers and forcing widespread evacuations.

A plume of black smoke was visible 40 miles away as firefighters went door-to-door urging residents and others to stay at least one mile from the fire, which threatened to ignite some of the dozen fuel tanks nearby. Some of the tanks are heavily damaged, officials said.

“Our main concern is not the fire but the materials of combustion,” Fire Chief Charles Hood said.

“It’s a very dynamic situation, and we’re still trying to get our arms around it,” the chief said. He added, “A larger explosion could basically kill a bunch of people that are close by.”

7. If you think the Chronicle's comments section is bad, you should check out
the San Antonio Express-News online comments section. They make Freepersville sound tame. I don't know who does the editing, but they're not doing a good job of keeping the white sheeters out. Which is fine. This is a democracy, after all. They're allowed to make their views known. But, they do skirt the lines of near-criminal and terroristic comments. Someone is advising them well on how far they can go before the Secret Service jumps down their throats. But, the racist and anti-Obama sentiments are downright sickening in their ferocity. I know some of them are going to be online today talking about how happy they are about the fires being on the poor Hispanic sides of town and how it was probably some entitlement worker Hispanic or black that got lazy and started it. That's the way it always is.

10. These will be the targets of terrorists - they all know USA's addiction to oil
.
.
.

Oil, the NET and satellites

these are all things that the USA's war-machine depend on

USA will not be beaten by military "might";

we all know that.

Hackers abound all over the globe

much of the oil the USA depends on is half-way around the world.

China has demonstrated it's ability to shoot down satellites.

No need to attack the USA mainland.

Control it's oil, NET and Satellites . . .

what power will the USA have left?

They certainly can't fall back on the good will of other nations . . .

They blew it all up
