6 bodies found in cave, 3 with hearts cut out
ASSOCIATED PRESS
June 7, 2010, 12:48AM

CANCUN, Mexico — Police discovered six dead bodies in a cavern near the tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, three of them cut open and their hearts removed.

Authorities are investigating the identities of the four men and two women found dead in the natural cave, said Francisco Alor, the Quintana Roo state attorney general.

“They were apparently tortured and their chests were opened to remove the hearts,” Alor's office said later in a statement.

Three of the bodies had the letter “Z” carved on their abdomens — a possible reference to the Zeta drug gang, though officials did not make an explicit connection to cartel violence that has plagued many parts of Mexico.

More than 22,700 people have died nationwide in drug violence since late 2006, when President Felipe Calderon sent soldiers and federal police to battle the cartels.

1. Legalize Cannabis and this crap ends...
starve the beast!!!

But that makes way too much sense so let us keep doing what we have been doing for 4 decades and see if we get a different result.

4. I wish I could agree with you...
I don't oppose legalization, I just have strong doubts about the leopards changing their spots.

I've talked to Equadorans who spoke of landscapers fighting with machetes for streets and blocks.

Life won't get any easier for Latin Americans with legal dope for the USA.

12. we've destroyed their ability to survive as farmers by dumping subsidized crops,
destroyed wages with NAFTA, and in wide swaths of Central America, they can't fight for farm labor wages because the fruit company will call the CIA and death squads will kill the labor leaders.

They are starving dogs fighting over the last scrap of meat they can find.

31. A well stated assessment of the situation.
What's good for us is not necessarily good for our trading partners and neighbors.

Our power structures, which have been artificially high since WWII, are failing. We rode that horse until it fell over, dead.

Change will come, but it isn't going to be comfortable. People hate being uncomfortable.

13. Of course it is not a cure all!
However, if you remove the major money crop then it will drastically reduce the money these cartels have that create many of the problems for SOME Latin America countries.

It would be one hell of a start!

19. Well, it worked here
We used to have gangs, gang wars, drive-by shootings, and mass murder on a wide scale.

Then, we decriminalized alcohol and it pretty much stopped.

I think they deal in cocaine. I could be wrong. But we grow much better marijuana HERE - why would anyone buy an inferior product from an unknown place?

the American indoor grown Chronic. Plus, at $80 an eighth not everyone can afford it!

So, the Mexican Cartels do a lot of business here! It is their number 1 money crop. Yes, they do sell cocaine & meth as well. But I am almost positive Marijuana is their number one money maker.

48. LOL!
To be honest I had only smoked here and there at the occasional party or class reunion...Until I suffered a spinal cord injury and was left with this really screwed up pain called Neurotic Pain...It burns like sun burn but and intensifies when you move like when your leg falls asleep.

So, I was desperate and so I got real familiar with pricing!

However, I live in the deep south and they treat marijuana smokers worse than murders down here...So, I have been forced to spend $300 a month on a drug made by Pfizer to keep from being thrown in jail in my condition. And to be honest to keep my family & friend from going to jail that were risking it all to get me pot.

I actually grew my own for a while but got too scared after a year and half and went back to my legal corporate drug. I love it! I had so much fun building my own hydro system & growing such BEAUTIFUL Flowers!

I wish i could move to a Medicinal Marijuana State...I could easily grow my own for much less than $300 a month I am paying Pfizer!!

39. Legalizing pot wont end it
The cartels are now fighting over street sales in Mexican cities, extortion of local businesses, kidnapping for ransom, etc. It wont end until either one entity emerges on top or the Mexican government contains it.

The gasoline is 34 cents cheaper than across the river in California.
On another note, me and the SO went to Cabo last year at the height of the volence and Swine flu and had a great, inexpensive time, because of the vacuum of tourists staying away.

17. Highly unlikely. It takes a specialised transplant team to remove organs...
...for live transplant. A heart simply hacked out of someone's chest would be so loaded with stress hormones and metabolites it would be useless.

Given the recent upsurge in "traditional magical practices" (mostly perversions of less macabre traditions) of a rather nasty nature around the globe, I wouldn't be adverse to dropping a few quid on this being more of the same. Quite possibly cartel related. Maybe a mix of "magic" and gang bonding, like shooting some poor undeserving bastard at random, or raping your sister.

As a magical ingredient or talisman those hearts might have a certain black market value. But IIRC hearts taken as a part of human sacrifice in that part of the world were burned so it would take some very liberal reinterpretation of tradition before one could be planted in a building's foundation as earthquake proofing, like a child's skull might be used in certain parts of Africa.

27. Interesting story, Judi +1
The first thing I thought of was Magdalena Solís and the psycho cult she ran in the early 60s down around Yerba Buena/Monterey – I think?

I see she has a wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdalena_Sol%C3%ADs but no details. If I recall correctly her group was into sex & drugs, with little to show in the way of hard profit. They were, however, first rate at whacking hearts out of their victims!

Interesting, is it not, how this occult nonsense comes and goes in waves? Probably not related to this story you posted. Just the first thing that came to mind.

Thanks for making the ol’ memory circuits kick it.
