How low will the beach rental rates go?

Property managers are offering 30 percent to 50 percent cuts at condominium units and beach houses, hoping to fill rooms and prevent cancellations in the wake of the BP oil spill.

"June has been gutted, as far as rental occupancies," said David Bodenhamer, a partner in Young's Suncoast Vacation Rentals in Gulf Shores, which handles almost 500 rental units. "We've had $220,000 in cancellations in the last three days. We're running less than a 50 percent occupancy, which is significantly less than this time last year."

In fact, he said, a few of his clients have reduced their rentals rates by half.

2. Total paradigm shift, where beachfront becomes a negative.
Wait until place start crowing about how far they are from the beach.

9. LOL, and not happy about it.
Kinda like when Robin Williams would run to the back of the room during his stand-up routine and tease the people in the front row about now THEY had the bad seats.

5. Put BP officials under house arrest there
They can wear leg monitors and live out the rest of their natural lives on the coast they mutilated.

11. C-span hearings, I wanted to mention from LA . . . Nice job by Markey . . .
didn't catch all of it -- two women who lost husbands --

evidently other women whose husbands are still employed fear testifying because

their husbands could lose jobs???

15. I take it that many of the posters in this thread have never been to Gulf Shores.
I've been there many times and believe me it's absolutely beautiful. The oil washing up is horrible but believe me there are plenty of awesome condos to stay with amazing pools and tons of things to do at night. Gulf Shores will recover it will just take time. As for imprisoning oil executives in those condos I'm pretty sure they could handle that without a whimper. The Caribe as well as the others listed are phenomenal condos and are now selling for less.
