Dire climate change warning to Australia
Source: Sydney Morning Herald (Oz)

A dire warning will be delivered to Australia when almost 1000 delegates from around the world arrive on the Gold Coast next week for the country's first international conference on the science of climate change, and how to adapt to it.

Co-chair of the three-day conference and director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility, Professor Jean Palutikof, warns Australia will be one of the hardest hit developed countries in the world when climate change starts to bite.

"The science tells us climate change is happening faster than we thought and that the window for us to adapt and prepare is smaller than we thought," Professor Palutikof said.

"Australia is already experiencing the effects of climate change and is likely to be one of the most severely affected among developed countries...

Oh. SORRY.

Keep forgetting that global warming is just a myth made up by scientists in order to keep up the payments on their Honda Civics.

1. "adaptation and mitigation measures" guess it's too late to change,. oh well.
apparently the 5000-year-old-earth crowd is oblivious to the observable changes in our lifetimes,. the increasing weather extremes, droughts and flash floods sure seem to be coming faster and with greater severity.

4. no, i don't think they are oblivious. I think they have an alternate interpretation.
Expecting armageddon and the rapture, they are. That's why they are so pumped lately and everyone's in love with insane right wing Christian women.

6. Aussies adapt...Americans deny
From the article:

"The CSIRO's Climate Adaptation Flagship Director Andrew Ash said the conference is the first to focus solely on practical adaptation measures.

"Adaptation is about preparing for climate change in order to minimise its impact on our natural, built and social environment," Dr Ash said. "The precise level of impact is difficult to pinpoint, so successful adaptation also means building our resilience to cope with uncertainty."

-------------

If you've ever been to Australia you may agree with me when I say that Aussies are more practical and realistic than Americans. No surprise to me that they try to figure out solutions re. global warming --while Americans deny, fight each other, and thwart attempts to even mitigate the problem, much less adapt. The biggest creator of the problem is powerless to effectively address the problem.

9. It's hard to even get Dems to care about it these days
I rarely see climate change or the environment on many DUers top ten priorities lists. How much will the other issues matter if our planet can't sustain most life forms?
