Police Confirm Texas Woman Was Target Of Pipe Bomb (Oil executive's home)

Source: KWTX News

A Texas woman injured when what she thought was a box of candy exploded was the target of the pipe bomb in the package, federal agents say.

HOUSTON (July 14, 2010)--Federal agents confirm that a Houston woman injured when a package exploded was the target of the exploding pipe bomb rather than her husband, who’s an oil executive.

Vennie Wolf was injured Friday at her home when she opened a shoebox-sized package that exploded and sprayed shrapnel and nails at her.

Authorities said Wolf, 58, received the package several weeks earlier, but initially was reluctant to open it because she did not know who it was from.

Special Agent Robert Elder from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the incident appears to be isolated.

Authorities don't yet have a motive, but Wolf's husband was not the intended victim.

1. What a weird story....she held on to the package for weeks because she was
afraid to open it...and did open it?

Sad situation..all around.

Glad it did not involve some nutjobs trying to punish her husband for the oil spill tragedy

2. Is it OK to be outraged that someone would send a pipe bomb to an old woman...
now that we know it wasn't the righteous act of a liberal defending the gulf against BP?

14. Is that the Knights who say Ni...or
The sheriff is a Ni....

or is it something else.

Damn, but I love pop culture references?

I'm 58 years old, please forgive me.

23. Who suspected "a liberal"? And you must be pretty young to think 58 is "an old woman."

8. Seriously, how do you know this was not...
An incident related to the oil spill or this woman's pissed off lover?

What I read said, "Authorities don't yet have a motive..."

So how does everyone here seem to know the motive?

12. How is her relationship with her husband?
and why only her? If the nuts are going after oil execs, why haven't there been more? It wouldn't surprise me with the hostile environment towards big oil, that some husband who wants to off his wife, is using this as an opportunity to draw suspicion away from themselves. Isn't it true that most victims know their attackers?

16. ATF: Victim's brother wanted in candy bombing (KTRK Houston)
... A candy bomb delivered to Vennie Wolf blew up in her face Friday and she survived. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms told us Wednesday afternoon that it wants to charge Wolf's brother in connection with the bombing.

The brother remains in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated animal cruelty charge. The ATF thinks Wolf was targeted as part of an inheritance scheme ...

17. A greedy brother after her inheritance.
I've witnessed people do some despicable things trying to get their hands on inheritances before. Forcing a sick elderly person to sign a will leaving everything to them, under threat of their being left to die alone otherwise, then sending the person off to an unqualified care provider where he died the following day from a lack of oxygen, is to date the most horrific.

20. Title and story at above link have changed: "ATF: Person of interest knows candy bomb victim"
Erik Barajas
... According to the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, the person of interest ... was charged with animal cruelty in San Augustine and violated that probation one day after the explosion last Friday in Harris County. He is now in the Harris County Jail. Officials with the San Augustine Sheriff's Office say they have been in contact with The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and that Wolf was possibly targeted, with the bomb, as part of an inheritance scheme. A records check by Eyewitness News found, the relative filed for bankruptcy back in 1999. But at this time the relative remains a person of interest and not a suspect ... http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=7555441
