'Dangerous Heat' Spreads Across Central U.S.
Source: Bloomberg

Temperatures will reach 100 degrees or more through a large part of the central U.S. and the Mississippi River Valley, giving St. Louis its hottest weather in three years.

Excessive heat warnings and advisories today cover all or part of 15 states from Kansas to South Carolina and Illinois to the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Weather Service. When coupled with humidity, temperatures will feel as hot as 115 Fahrenheit (46 Celsius) degrees in some areas.

“The heat index ranges are going to be pretty outrageous,” said Allan Huffman, a meteorologist for AirDat LLC in North Carolina, which installs weather-gathering sensors on commercial aircraft. “It is going to remain pretty intense out there for the foreseeable future.”

Above-normal heat in the U.S. and much of the Northern Hemisphere in the past month has caused utilities to ask customers to curb use and set temperature records in New York and Moscow.

Record temperatures in Alabama, Russia, China and other northern hemispheric areas are an ominous echo of global warming threats.

11. Ah, but here comes hurricane season!
And then there was last winter's walls of snow. We can't seem to win for losing.

2. Not to worry.
My sister assures me that global warming is a Democratic hoax and that we are actually entering an ice age. They said so on Fox, so it must be true.

3. My favorite thing lately is to walk up to a person I know
is a teabagger/global warming denier who is sweating profusely in the heat and say "but global warming is a myth! It's not hot out, it's "normal".

5. It's a perfect 85 degrees in the Bay Area.
Haven't needed the a/c yet this year. I feel for you in the hot states. Take precautions, drink lots of water, and go to the movies?

6. Better to use the term 'climate change.'
It gets tiresome listening to pukes decrying the 'myth' of global warming because it's snowing.

8.  'climate change.'
I noticed that those folks who saw it snowing this winter and laughed as they cried "Where's the global warming???? Ha ha ha!" don't come out when it's hot in summer. If big snow storms prove Climate Change to be a hoax, don't heat waves prove global warming true? I mean, if you're gonna use local weather events to debunk climate science....

I'm sorry, I forgot logic, even bad logic, have nothing to do with it.

16. How clever we Dems are (us tree-hugger environuts) --
Somehow we convinced the Russians to put out the propaganda that Moscow is experiencing triple-digit temperatures this summer for the first time.

Probably one of the results from those fake e-mails from the fake global warming scientists. Probably.

17. Global warming is a proven fact
The earth has been getting warmer on average over the past decade or so. And one of the results of increased global temperatures means that we will experience more severe winter storms. But overall, on average, the temperature is going UP.

9. Due to the increase in atmospheric moisture...

Which is a bi-product of climate change and the Earth's overall warming, So Cal has been experiencing the mildest summer I can recall. In the Los Angeles area we experience night and early morning low clouds, or "marine layer" along the coast. This prevents the sun from scorching us in the morning, which in turn prevents us from reaching normal high temperatures. It is commonly referred to as "June Gloom" a phrase I don't like much at all, for personal reasons:)

Well, we had our normal June Gloom (ok... jeez... I have to wrap it all up somehow! ha.. ) through the month of June, as per usual. Then it stayed through the month of July (without a catch phrase, harrumph) and now in August, we're still experiencing our marine layer.

I expect us to go full blown tropical in a few years... Death Valley digs revealed sea shells and ferns... we were very tropical once upon a time.

Los Angeles, the new Maui?
