Senator Debbie Stabenow sponsors the "Americans Want to Work Act" for the 99ers
Source: Examiner.com

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has announced she will write legislation, within the Senate, to extend unemployment compensation to the 99ers or Exhaustees.
The Detroit Job Search Examiner received a e-mail from the Senator Stabenow's Office on August 4th stating the following:

"Earlier today, I introduced the Americans Want to Work Act, a bill that would provide 20 additional weeks of unemployment insurance to people in states like ours with high unemployment, Senator Stabenow wrote. This "tier five" of benefits would be a little different from the other tiers of unemployment benefits, however, because in addition to benefits, it would also include a tax cut for businesses that hire workers who have been looking for work the longest".

Senate Stabenow Warns that the Bill Faces a Tough Fight

A majority of Republicans managed to successfully filibuster the prior unemployment bill, H.R.-4213 for over three months within the Senate. On June 26, crossover votes of Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) were gained, after job creation measures and Medicaid spending increases for physicians, were removed from the legislation:

"Now, this bill is going to be tough to pass. The last regular extension was blocked for over three months in the Senate. I expect it will be an uphill battle to pass legislation to create this new tier, Senator Stabenow wrote. But I also know this is an important fight for Michigan families who have been hit the hardest by this recession – and I'm willing to lead that fight."

Thank you Senator Stabenow for STANDING UP for Unemployed Job Seekers! I LOVE my Senator....by the way. Others talked and talked....and it took Sen. Stabenow to hear millions of American's pleads, to take the lead and Sponsor the bill. So proud to live in Michigan, with our Senator representing us!

1. My husband lost his job during the Reagan recession.
He was forty, and no one wanted to hire him. He worked at a crappy local factory for a month. He cleaned up in a meat packing plant. No matter what he did, he was laid off in a matter of weeks.

It took him two and a half years to find a job. He had to start over at a very low hourly wage. He has worked there for twenty-two years now, and is ready to retire.

He was not the only person we knew who had trouble finding a steady job at that time. I can sympathize. I am sure it is worse now than it was during the Reagan years. 99ers, I understand.

4. thanks! It really sucks out there.
I had a recruiter email me the other day, totally excited by my resume.
A moment later he emails me back..."you have been out of work since Nov 08?"
"yes I was laid off".....
Never heard back from him.
