Head of defunct lobbying firm PMA indicted on charges of illegal campaign gifts

A once-influential defense lobbyist was charged Thursday with making hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions -- while his son agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in the case involving his father as part of a plea agreement.

Paul J. Magliocchetti, founder and owner of the now closed PMA Group, was indicted in U.S. District Court in Alexandria on eight counts of making illegal campaign contributions and three counts of making false statements.

Meanwhile his son, Mark Magliocchetti, pleaded guilty to one count of making illegal campaign donations at the behest of his father, who allegedly reimbursed his son and daughter-in-law for more than $120,000 in contributions between 2002 and 2008, according to court documents.

Some Democratic representatives, the late John Murtha and the currently serving Norm Dicks and James Moran, were associated with PMA before.
