Senate confirms new fed prosecutor in S.F.
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(08-05) 19:09 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- The Bay Area is about to get a new U.S. attorney, the first woman to hold the job in 90 years.

The Senate voted unanimously Thursday to confirm President Obama's nomination of Melinda Haag, a San Francisco lawyer and former federal prosecutor, to oversee criminal cases in the Northern District of California.

She will succeed Joseph Russoniello, the district's chief federal prosecutor since January 2008, when he was appointed by President George W. Bush. Russoniello had previously held the same position from 1982 to 1990.

The last female U.S. attorney in San Francisco was Annette Adams, who served from 1918 to 1920.

1982=Reagan. So we can say goodbye to a man appointed by two crummy Republican presidents and welcome in Ms. Haag!

3. looks good at first glance
..."Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who recommended Haag to Obama"...

"Russoniello has been an outspoken critic of medical marijuana. After Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Obama administration would leave pot suppliers alone if they complied with laws in states like California that allowed medicinal use, Russoniello continued prosecutions of two local dispensaries and declared that virtually all such operators in California were profit-making entities subject to federal charges."

It didn't say what Haag's position is on this issue, anyway good to see the Bush guy out the door. Probably good news that the rec came from Boxer.
