Women gather to denounce Sharron Angle comments
Source: Las Vegas Sun

A Las Vegas city councilwoman, a comedian, a lawyer, a restaurant owner, a Realtor and an executive, along with a handful of other Nevada women, gathered today at a downtown café to send U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle a message: Don't tell us how to live our lives.

The women, all working mothers, came together to pledge their support for Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and to speak out against his Republican challenger, who has said that one parent should stay home with children because that is the "acceptable" and "right" thing to do.

Comedian Rita Rudner called Angle's remarks "disturbing" and argued that a woman fulfilled by her job is a better mother.

City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian said she was personally offended by Angle's comments. Tarkanian, a Democrat, is the mother of Republican Danny Tarkanian, who ran unsuccessfully in the GOP primary to try to unseat Reid.

Well, wait until Sharron Angle wins a Senate seat over Harry Reid so that she gets to tell working couples who are trying to provide forth their families that they are bad parents.

5. that says it all..........
yesterday on Hardball, Chris played an audio message where she trying to say what Reid, Pelosi & Obama are trying to do. Apparently she was confused because instead of blaming it on a violation of the first amendment, she said the first commandment!!

2. The Tea Party gave us a great gift.
If the Republicans had nominated someone sane, Reid wouldn't have stood a chance. Now, he's the favorite.

Thanks, Tea Party!

16. Just the same
he still needs to be replaced as Senate leader with someone who has way more backbone. My fear is that an easy coast to re-election just confirms for Reid that capitulating to Repukes every other time is what works best.

Clearly, he's going to have a lot more of them to contend with should he win this election.

3. If Angle believes so strongly a woman should stay at home...
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 01:44 AM by cascadiance
... perhaps she should do us all a big favor and follow her own advice and stay at home like an idiot should, until she begins to learn what it is like in the real world for women of today who both need to work and VALUE working, and understand that she herself is proposing that SHE work as a senator and stop being a f'in' hypocrite!

4. She should delay that decision just a little
Just long enough to hand Reid his next term. THEN she can go back to her kitchen.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 03:10 AM by cascadiance
And like you said, that's just fine to help Reid win! Especially if she isn't living out her values. We need to remind the electorate of that!

8. No I didn't say mom's at home were idiots. I said SHE was an idiot and SHE should stay home...
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 03:07 AM by cascadiance
... and stay out of politics! Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I value women's decisions to pursue whatever life choice they choose and she should be consistent with her values!

But if she's going to say that other women should just stay home an make decisions for them, then I would contend she's an idiot.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 02:45 AM by krabigirl
Granted, I don't like when women look down on me for what I chose to do after having kids, but this other extreme is insane. People need to butt out of other people's business, period.

14. Parents in my neighborhood grew robbers and assailants because they gave their kids no attention
They told their children to get out of the house until dinner time. Those Appalachian trash told stories about torturing animals and vandalizing the park.

interesting to watch her squirm. Perhaps Sarah Palin should interview her on Fox :-).

21. Does Angle then also support doubling wages and full employment?
It does follow. No? But wouldn't a $20/hr minimum wage allow some families to choose to have one spouse at home? Isn't full employment a family value?

Her hidden message: Only the "responsible" wealthy should have children.

24. another hypocrite, like Phyllis Schlafly
She tells "women" to stay home with their kids, but she worked as a substitute teacher while her kids were growing up and her husband worked for BLM (I guess she's OK with the role BLM plays as opposed to Department of Education)

offended also if you feel the need.
