AP Exclusive: CIA whisked detainees from Gitmo
Source: AP

WASHINGTON – Four of the nation's most highly valued terrorist prisoners were secretly moved to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2003, years earlier than has been disclosed, then whisked back into overseas prisons before the Supreme Court could give them access to lawyers, The Associated Press has learned.

The transfer allowed the U.S. to interrogate the detainees in CIA "black sites" for two more years without allowing them to speak with attorneys or human rights observers or challenge their detention in U.S. courts. Had they remained at the Guantanamo Bay prison for just three more months, they would have been afforded those rights.

"This was all just a shell game to hide detainees from the courts," said Jonathan Hafetz, a Seton Hall University law professor who has represented several detainees.

Removing them from Guantanamo Bay underscores how worried President George W. Bush's administration was that the Supreme Court might lift the veil of secrecy on the detention program. It also shows how insistent the Bush administration was that terrorists must be held outside the U.S. court system.

2. Please correct me if I'm wrong ...
Really. I mean that. From the article: CIA spokesman George Little said: "The so-called black sites and enhanced interrogation methods, which were administered on the basis of guidance from the Department of Justice, are a thing of the past." Are they a thing of the past? I thought I had read they're still in existence, and in use. If I'm wrong on that, thanks in advance for steering me straight.

Further: Binalshibh and al-Hawsawi helped plan the 9/11 attacks. Al-Nashiri was the mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole. Zubaydah was an al-Qaida travel facilitator. The admitted terrorists had spent months overseas enduring some of the harshest interrogation tactics in U.S. history. Instead of "interrogation tactics," let's call it what it was ... TORTURE. And damn it, I wish like hell charges had been (will be) brought against BushCo.

I know, I'm preaching to the choir.

3. If their implication in 9/11 and Cole came from torture...
Am I expected to believe anything they confess?

There is nothing bad enough to do to the 9/11 planners who sent other men to die but saved themselves...........but I really dislike torture. Any judge worth spit would have to toss the whole case as soon as the torture came out WHICH I THINK WOULD BE A BETTER AD FOR THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE than anything else we could do. But who cares about that? Not us. Not really.

I know these guys deserve every bad thing that ever happened to them. I do. Let them go home. Maybe they betrayed their own beliefs and maybe they didn't, BUT WE DID.

I know we won't let them go. We are too corrupt. And that they wouldn't thank us if we did. They are too corrupt.

But I have this addict's craving for a law so pure and true that it would set them free because of the crimes we committed. I'll never stop wanting that.

Is not a "thing of the past" when the Geneva Conventions, to which we are signatory, have been purposely and blatantly ignored. A crime is still a crime. How to deal with that crime is up to not only our current administration, but also by other nations who are also party to the conventions. Where's the world court on all this? Or am I off base here?

Am still outraged about Gitmo, Bushco, and all the crimes the US has committed through that venue, including the children who were drawn into that nightmare.

10. The words from detaniees. I took these from "old Cage Prisoners"

Myself and others have been protesting in the last 6 years of our Country kidnapping and torturing.
6 years of going out to protest in an orange jumpsuit and black hood.. and wearing a sign that has one of these sentences.

I got them from a website "CagePrisoners" which is now "old CagePrisoners" because they have a new site.

You can read about the detainees and their families or their stories.

** It is ironic to see the War Crimes trial of Charles Taylor, past President of Liberia, and his crimes, and then know what our country has been doing for the past 10 years.

I have often posted our many protests and letters written to the papers and to our Congress members and other officials.

So far it hasn't seemed to matter, but we still continue.

Here is are the sentences we wear or put up. You can also make signs or postcards with them to send to you Senators, calling for justice.

*********************
I was drowned and revived repeatedly over
20 times

I was shamed before a woman interrogator

I was kidnapped going to the store for my mother.

My family thinks I am dead.

Imprisoned without
Conviction for
4 years

My captors received a
$ 5,000 bounty

I was 15 years old when captured and have been tortured

I was 14 years old when captured.
They won’t let me die.

I was 17 years old we captured.
I wish I could see my mother.

A hunger strike was my only
Chance to get out of this hell.

The Guard stomped on my back
Crushed 2 vertebrae
Now I’m a paraplegic

I’m 18, blood gushes out when
They remove my nasal feeding tube
I just want to die

I have attempted suicide 9 times
I have been in solitary confinement
From May 04 to Dec of 2005
Jumah al-Dossari

I have 5 kids, the youngest was
2 years old in 2003 when I was sold to the Americans

They told me I will never see my
family again

I was kept in a cold concrete cell, with no
clothes,
and they would pour water on me

I was shackled, regularly beaten
and threatened with rape

They threw my Qur’an on the floor,
Stomped on it and urinated on it.

My head was smashed against the
floor repeatedly till I passed out

Several times a week for 24 hours,
they leave on bright lights and play
loud music in our solitary cell

Our water is yellow and smells of sewage yet we have to drink it
For the last two years,

I have pain in my heart and
My left arm is numb.
I am dizzy and can’t see since I was beaten.

Egyptian authorities handed me
over to the Americans for
$2000.

I was in Egypt on business,
from England

I was put in a cage with rats,
snakes, and scorpions

A woman guard repeatedly
touched me, and
wiped her blood on me.

Two guards would have sex
in front of me, to bring shame upon me.

I had 72 hours of
sleep deprivation and I can’t stop shaking

I as subject to religious humiliation
and they shaved my head and beard

I went to Pakistan to purchase rugs
when I was kidnapped

Dilawar Khan
22 yrs old
Taxi Driver

Tortured so badly my muscles crumbled and fell apart

I was chained to the top of my cell by my wrists for 4 hours.
I died

a guard tried to force me to my knees, But my legs, which had been pummeled by guards for several days, could no longer bend.

I was held with my arms over my head for 4 hours, I begged for water, they poured it on my orange suit

Unnamed Afghani
Died of hypothermia
Stripped, assaulted and left in a cell overnight without blankets

I was sold to Americans by a Taliban warlord.
I was hooded and shacked to the wall by my wrists and beaten. By 2nd day I was coughing up blood and died from a blood clot

They yelled “ALLAH” at me every time they kicked me in the stomach during Interrogation

13. Oh, that's just looking backward to the past
Let's look forward to the future! Nothing back there matters anymore. Here, watch this snappy new commercial about sending your sons and daughters to join the military. Doesn't that make your heart swell with national pride?

14. Amazing how that phrase actually works on so many
Imagine a murder trial...

"How do you plead?"

"Doesn't really matter; what's done is done. No sense dwelling in the past."

"Okay. Case dismissed."
