Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 11:05 AM by zonkers
Source: CNN blog

The skeletal remains of a woman found Monday in Malibu Canyon are that of Mitrice Richardson, who had been missing for nearly a year, a family friend told CNN.

Rhonda Hampton said the coroner's office called Richardson's mother, Latice Sutton, Thursday morning to report that a positive identification was made for her daughter.

Not the closure I was hoping for. Not too many details yet. This is sad.

1. Better a resolution like that, sad though it is, than none at all.
Rest in peace, Mitrice, and my condolences to the family.

2. Very sad.
I agree that finding the body is better than never knowing. I wish her family peace.

This gives a bit more details about location of the body in relation to the Sheriff's office http://malibusurfsidenews.com/stories/201008/201008120001.html.

I still think the Sheriff's office holds some blame. The restaurant that called the police made it clear they were less worried about the dinner tab than about the fact that she was acting so strangely.

3. The sheriff's station that released her is near my home.
They released her in the early morning hours to fend for herself in a mountainous area in which there is no public transportation. Her relatives are justifiably upset that no one was notified to come pick her up.

Although this received some local attention at the time, it was not nearly enough. I know this reflects poorly on the people around here, but I suspect if she had been caucasian, more community resources would have been marshalled to hunt for her right away and perhaps this tragic outcome could have been avoided.

7. How horrible. May she rest in peace.
What a sad ending to a terrible story. I hope the police are held liable for their actions the night they let her go.

8. So sad
I live in the area and I can't believe that the cops just cut her loose like that. Whoever was in charge had shit for brains.
