South Korean president proposes plan to reunite with North Korea

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has proposed a plan to reunite his country with North Korea and suggested a tax to prepare for the costs expected if the two countries come together, South Korea's state media said Sunday.

"Today inter-Korean relations demand a new paradigm," Lee said in a speech to mark the 65th anniversary of Korea's independence from Japanese colonial rule, Yonhap reported.

Lee said the two countries should form a "peace community," and stressed the importance of the denuclearization of North Korea, Yonhap reported. He added that inter-Korean exchanges are needed to help build North Korea's economy, according to Yonhap.

"It is imperative that the two sides choose coexistence instead of confrontation, progress instead of stagnation. The two of us need to overcome the current state of division and proceed with the goal of peaceful reunification," Lee said, according to Yonhap.

2. AP: SKorea leader urges North to halt provocations
AP foreign, Sunday August 15 2010
HYUNG-JIN KIM

Associated Press Writer = SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea's president urged North Korea to abandon its military provocations and make a "courageous change" toward peace, using a speech Sunday marking the Korean peninsula's liberation from Japanese rule to outline a path for its eventual reunification.

President Lee Myung-bak made the offer even as relations between the two Koreas are at their lowest point in years following the March sinking of a South Korean warship, which Lee said Sunday was "unprovoked attack" by North Korea.

"The North must never venture to carry out another provocation, nor will we tolerate it if they do so again," Lee said.

Tensions on the divided peninsula deepened last week when North Korea fired a barrage of artillery into the sea, some of them into South Korean waters.

4. Germany was reunited, because the communists went broke
As long as the rulers of NK can somehow sustain their regime (and their standard of living for the powerful), there is no chance they would give up their totalitarian control.

5. Well, Yoda changed Juche from "People rule" to "military first."
He has the complete backing of his brain washed military minions.

As for Lee Myung-Bak. . .he's a piece of crap, but in dealing with Yoda in Pyongyang, he is completely correct.
