The all-white creature, known as Migaloo, which means "white fellow" in Aboriginal, was filmed 1.2 miles from Green Island near the Great Barrier Reef in North Queensland.

It is the first time the creature, which is the only known all-white humpback whale in the world, has been captured on film.

Migaloo surfaced every 10 to 15 minutes, and the footage will be used to produce a documentary to help protect him.

Great Barrier Reef Helicopter Group director Deborah Ross told the Cairns Post: "We've made it a professional goal to make sure we get Migaloo recorded so we can help protect him because he is so precious.

1. Gorgeous...
But I'd prefer them to say, "The only known one in the world" as there's so many things we've yet to discover.

I truly hope they can keep him protected.

6. Me too, the scientist's will usually get that language right, The author's
of articles on the other hand try to sensationalize everything, hence the poor choice of words.

2. Don't be surprised if he's the #1 target for Japanese whalers this upcoming hunt season
They first attack the babies because the mothers will stay with them and then the Japanese whalers kill the mother and anyone with her.

9. Probably not.
There is little reason to risk even more negative press, an albino whale taste no different from a regular one.
