U.S. Official Visits Lebanon for Talks on Iran Sanctions, Daily Star Says

Business ExchangeTwitterDeliciousDiggFacebookLinkedInNewsvinePropellerYahoo! BuzzPrint Stuart Levey, the U.S. Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, arrived in Lebanon yesterday for talks on sanctions against Iran, the Daily Star reported.

Levey will meet with officials from Lebanon’s central bank, Finance Ministry and banking industry before flying on to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, the newspaper said.

Iran is under four sets of United Nations sanctions over its uranium-enrichment program. On July 1, the U.S. passed additional sanctions targeting Iranian fuel importers and banks, while European Union governments are preparing to impose their own punitive measures.

Iran has said its nuclear program is for generating electricity and other peaceful purposes.
