Two Palin-backed candidates lose
Source: The Hill

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) is on a bit of a losing streak.

One of the candidates Palin backed in Tuesday's primaries lost big — Washington Senate candidate Clint Didier (R). Another — Wyoming gubernatorial hopeful Rita Meyer (R) — conceded defeat early Wednesday morning to rival Matthew Mead, who won by some 700 votes.

Given former Rep. Nathan Deal's defeat of Karen Handel in Georgia's Republican runoff for governor, Rep. Todd Tiahrt's loss in the GOP Senate primary in Kansas and Tennessee congressional candidate CeCe Heil's (R) loss, Palin is 0 for 5 so far in August.

It's a losing streak likely to be broken next week when Arizona holds its primary — Palin has endorsed her 2008 ticket-mate, Sen. John McCain (R), over former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R).

@SarahPalinsHand Don't forget Basil Marceaux. 0-6

Basil Marceaux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basil Marceaux, Sr. (born May 26, 1952) is an American who has on multiple occasions been a candidate for state and federal public office in Tennessee.

Most recently, he filed as a candidate for the 2010 Republican nominations for governor in the Tennessee gubernatorial election<1> and U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee's 3rd congressional district.<2> Owing in part to his unconventional viewpoints, his 2010 campaign for Governor became something of a media sensation.<3><4>

In addition to his 2010 campaign for Governor, Marceaux was simultaneously a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee's 3rd congressional district.<5> He previously ran unsuccessfully as a candidate for United States Senate and House of Representatives<1> and ran unsuccessfully for Tennessee governor in 2002 as an independent candidate.<6>

<snip>

His official campaign website on freesitenow.com states "VOTE FOR ME AND IF I WIN I WILL IMMUNE YOU FROM ALL STATE CRIMES FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE!". His campaign video became a viral hit in late July 2010,<2> airing on MSNBC<2>, The Colbert Report<8>, and The Soup as well as having clips played on the Bubba the Love Sponge, Paul and Young Ron, Keith and the Girl and Monsters in the Morning radio shows. He was later invited onto Jimmy Kimmel Live <9> and interviewed on The Opie & Anthony Show. <10> Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report urged viewers on two occasions to vote for "Basil Marceaux-dot-com" in the primary election, including all Democrats and Independents as Tennessee has an open primary.

Incoherent Internet Star Basil Marceaux Not Doing That Bad in Hypothetical 2012 Matchup
# 8/12/10 at 3:32 PM
# Comment 8Comment

In the latest Public Policy Polling data on hypothetical 2012 presidential matchups, President Obama edges out every major potential Republican nominee, including Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Newt Gingrich. And he also beats barely coherent Internet sensation and apparently dark-horse presidential hopeful Basil Marceaux by 25 points, in case you were wondering. It's really not that terrible a showing, considering that almost nobody has heard of Marceaux, and those that have find him comically insane. Hell, New Jersey governor Chris Christie, a rising star in the GOP, loses to Obama by sixteen points. Still, wait — why are we asking about Basil Marceaux to begin with? Presuming that the question was included in the poll as pure (and obviously effective) blog bait, we sought an explanation from PPP's Tom Jensen.

Basil Marceaux/Sarah Palin 2012? Marceaux Tells Glenn Beck He’s Thinking About It

If Sarah Palin wanted to know the way Glenn Beck must have felt when she commented that him being on her 2012 campaign ticket would be a “hoot,” there’s a chance she might understand now. Bizarre viral video candidate for Tennessee governor Basil Marceaux continued making the rounds in the mainstream media today with an interview with Beck, where he said he would consider running for president if Palin was on his ticket.

Basil Marceaux burst onto the already crowded viral video market with a strange local news appearance where he rechristened himself “BasilMarceaux.com” and promised an end to all traffic stops. Now he’s a national superstar (?), appearing on Beck’s talk radio show to answer a few questions about his politics. Introduced by Beck’s dramatic reading of a Davy Crockett speech, Marceaux thanked Beck for appearing on the show and admitted he’s a regular viewer of the Fox News program. Beck thanked him and warned him that, well, “I think there are some within arm’s length currently that would question whether or not you’re a serious candidate.”

Countering Beck’s assertion, his co-host Pat Gray tried to prove how seriously he took Marceaux by asking about his presidential ambitions. Marceaux had a surprising answer, if anything about Basil Marceaux can still be considered surprising:

<snip>

Marceaux also goes deep into the details of the badge he wears around his neck, which he says makes him “able to arrest people who break the Constitution.” He is the only person in America who has one, he says, but the right to arrest people comes from his work in the Marines (it’s in the Emancipation Proclamation, apparently). He also explained his aversion for traffic stops.
