LAPD chief vows 'long-term' investigation of babies found dead in L.A. basement (since 1930)
Source: Los Angeles Times

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck promised a vigorous investigation after the remains of two babies believed to have died seven decades ago were found in the basement of an apartment building near MacArthur Park.

The remains were found in a steamer trunk wrapped in Los Angeles Times newspapers from the 1930s. A ticket to the 1932 Olympics and other items were found nearby.

"We'll put detectives on this case for the long term," Beck told The Times. "We'll try to reconstruct the circumstances based on what the coroner tells us, based on the history of the residence and based on science. We have many more tools and technology available to us than before, which may allow for identification of the victims and closure to any family members."

Chances are the mother(s) might have died or are living in retirement homes by now. Could these dead babies symbolize a pre-Roe v. Wade society?

Last month, a woman in France named Dominique Cottrez was arrested allegedly for killing several of her babies from 1989-2006.

1. What's to be gained?
And is it a reasonable allocation of scarce governmental resources?

I guess the LAPD has eliminated crime in Los Angeles and is looking for things to do.

2. Agreed. Why not open investigation on all decades old unsolved murders
and crimes?

3. They have to make an effort at some level
Else it sets a precedent especially concerning cold case files.

I doubt that they will do more than a cursory piece and put in the cold case files.

4. What a waste of time and resources.
If in fact they were killed in some manner, the person/persons who did it, if still alive, would have to be at least 100 years old now. Ridiculous.

6. To divert your attention from something else.
Not sure what, but this is the LAPD. There's something they don't want you to focus on now.

8. It would be nice to know how they died
You might not find the mother(s?), but it would at least give a public record of these little ones.
