China to restrict knife sales ahead of Asian Games

BEIJING (AFP) – Authorities in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou will restrict the sale of knives as they step up security ahead of the Asian Games in November, state media said Saturday.

From November 1, anyone wanting to buy kitchen knives or other large cutting tools will have to visit designated shops and present identity documents. Buyers will be registered by police, the China Daily reported.

Shops will be fitted with surveillance cameras and other security equipment, and merchants have been ordered not to sell knives to teenagers or anyone with a "mental disability", the paper added.

The security crackdown will last two months, the report said.

just stop selling the blades... the handle is useless without the blade doncha know.
