Officials think bin Laden involved in Europe plot
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — U.S. counterterrorism officials say they believe that senior al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, are involved in the latest terror plot against European cities.

The multi-pronged scope of the emerging plan — which was to launch coordinated shooting sprees or attacks in Britain, France and Germany — is an al-Qaida hallmark. One U.S. intelligence official added, however, that the details of how the plan was directed or coordinated by the group's core leaders is not yet clear. Bin Laden and his top lieutenants are believed to be in hiding in Pakistan.

5. For someone with a severe kidney problem living on the run in some of the most remote parts
of the world, OBL sure manages to survive and continue to wreak havoc on the world.

How does he do it?

Gotta have a boogeyman to keep those fat military budgets coming.

10. Hmm... so the good folks in the European Union aren't ponying up enough to the
American Military Industrial Complex? Or do we need a dose of faux righteous indignation so Israel can bitch-slap the mullahs in Iran? Or maybe the British investigations into Iraq-ahstan are getting uncomfortably close to the truth about the "special relationship" between Poodle Blair and ol' G-Dubya? Or has our new partner in world domination India decided that Pakistan is now ripe for the plucking?

Please, "U.S. counter-terrorism officials," do tell.

14. I pick "all of the above"
plus the extra goody factor of encircling Iran, and blocking oil to Iran.

From a 2008 news story:

To fuel its growing economy, India is turning to Iran. A proposed 2,600-kilometer gas pipeline would carry natural gas from fields in Iran to India to satisfy the country's increasing demand for energy. The proposed 7.5-billion dollar pipeline would run through Pakistan. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf cleared obstacles to the planned pipeline after the Iranian President's recent visit to New Delhi and Islamabad. Washington continues to oppose the pipeline because it believes the pipeline will bolster Iran.

15. Ohh, I like the "goodie factor." Encircle Iran, control the gas to India.

We will NEVER leave Iraq-ahstan.
