Dozens killed in Indonesian train crash

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Local television says at least 25 people were killed in train crash in central Indonesia.

Witnesses told TVOne the accident occurred near Pemalang, a city on the northern coast of Central Java province, at around 3 a.m.

They said many bodies were still trapped in the wreckage.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen, reporting from Jakarta, said that one train had crashed into the back of another waiting at a station.

"The last carriage was severely damaged," she said.

"I have just spoken to a witness, a passenger who was on the train. He said that the carriage was upside down near some houses and most of the victims were in this last carriage."

Witnesses told local media that many bodies were still trapped in the wreckage.
